"Mi carry load on mi head, walking from down where mi live - from Montpelier (St Andrew Hills) to Ray Piece in Portland to buy load put it on mi head and walk from there go to Kingston go sell it," Daley recalled. MEMBERS of two gangs who have been terrorising sections of Bay Shore, Harbour View in East Rural St Andrew, have either fled from the community or are lying low, police have confirmed.

Last week, an informant told the Jamaica Observer of a secret burial place in the general community where people were killed and their bodies disposed of.
The practice, the informant said, had been going on for several years and carried out by gangs in Bay Shore, an area that some people have detached from Harbour View, but which is officially listed as a part of that densely populated community.
Violence in Bay Shore stepped up a notch in recent weeks with the murder of 26-year-old Mona Primary School grade five teacher Paul Walker, 26, and his friend Omar ‘Biggs’ Campbell on January 4. more

NEWS-BREAK: Gov. Chris Christie Knew about George Washington Bridge Lane Closings as it happened....David Wildstein has evidence to show. Is Christie history??
The attorney of a former Port Authority official who oversaw the George Washington Bridge lane closures has sent a letter claiming that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was aware of the closures.
The New York Times obtained a copy of the document from Alan Zegas, lawyer of David Wildstein, which was sent to the Port Authority. The letter alleges that the lane closures were the "Christie administration’s order” and that evidence exists that is "contrary" to Christie's Jan. 9 press conference, where he claimed he was unaware.
Gov. Christie |
In addition, the letter also states that “Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some." The letter makes no reference as to what those inaccuracies may be, or even if they are related to the George Washington Bridge scandal. While Wildstein's allegation is potentially explosive, it is worth noting that he is currently seeking a plea deal. The letter was written in part to ask the Port Authority to pay his legal fees. more
Dunrobin Primary Mourns.....SCHOOL TEACHER Atkinson-Reid, 32, was on Wednesday, found dead at her home in Portsmouth, Portmore, St Catherine - her face bashed in, multiple stab wounds, and a cord tied to her neck.
It was all too evident - an agonising portrait of despair.
The heartache weighed heavily on teachers of the Dunrobin Primary School in St Andrew as the grief arising from the death of a colleague reminded all of the shortness of life.
Many who worked with Janice Atkinson-Reid for years wept uncontrollably as they assembled for the first time in a school setting since the tragic news broke that one of their own had been murdered.
The educators huddled even as they determinedly supervised hundreds of students to whom they had to impart the bad news. Grief counsellors and a trauma team from the Education Ministry were on hand.
In death, she inspired bright hope of a better tomorrow for the institution which boasts a rich history, but has had its fair share of challenges in recent times.

Kartel's Defence Cries Foul : Defence lawyer Tom Tavares-Finson yesterday raised concerns at the murder trial of entertainer Vybz Kartel
Defence lawyer Tom Tavares-Finson yesterday raised concerns at the murder trial of entertainer Vybz Kartel that a computer expert for the defence was detained by the police on Wednesday and items to assist the defence were seized by the police.
However, Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn, assured the court that no items were seized.
She said when she heard Tavares Finson on the radio complaining about the arrest of their expert, she called the police officer in charge of the Organised Crime Investigation Divison about the matter. She said Senior Superintendent Clifford Chambers said he was not aware that the man - Philpott Martin - was associated with the defence team.
"I told him, out of an abundance of caution, to stand down that investigation," until the Kartel murder tiral was completed.
Nothing taken from Martin
Llewellyn said Chambers told her that Martin was simply asked to accompany the police and nothing was taken from him.
Tavares-Finson said Martin was detained on a warrant by Inspector Warren Williams, who had testified this month at the trial. He said that Martin's detention would "inevitably affect the defence". more

Editorial from JAMAICA: This barbarity must end! Get rid of the scum!......Wicked, heartless scum invaded the home of a 34-year-old woman, Ms Rosemarie Wilson, and her common-law husband Mr Junior Pinniler, a 44-year-old farmer, in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, and shot them dead in front of their children.
Early Wednesday morning, Jamaica was subjected to the latest episode in what is now a long-running series on evil that has badly scarred this country.
Wicked, heartless scum invaded the home of a 34-year-old woman, Ms Rosemarie Wilson, and her common-law husband Mr Junior Pinniler, a 44-year-old farmer, in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, and shot them dead in front of their children. To say we are appalled is an understatement. But what worries us more is the fact that this kind of atrocity is not new to Jamaica.
We have, in the past, seen too many similar acts that have left families to grieve, made orphans of children, and created fear in entire communities. Sadly, far too many of us have become inured to such atrocities and regard them as just another case of madness, especially when we are not affected by the insanity.
It is obvious that there are some persons in this country who place no value on human life and who believe that theirs is the authority to deny others of that most basic human right. more
Amanda Knox Found Guilty Of Murder Of British Student Meredith Kercher In Florence, Italy Retrial
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have had their guilty verdicts for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher reinstated by judges in Florence.
Neither American Knox, 26, nor Sollecito, 29, an Italian national, were in the courtroom to hear the verdict, though members of Miss Kercher's family were at the hearing. This is the third time the pair have been tried for the killing of Miss Kercher, who died in Perugia in 2007.
Originally convicted in 2009 and sentenced to more than 25 years in jail, a retrial cleared Knox and Sollecito in 2011, however an appeal for a retrial was granted early last year, leading to Thursday's reinstatement of the guilty verdicts..

As A USA Today editorial points out, the trials of Knox have made headlines around the globe, with the student often portrayed "both as a she-devil bent on sexual adventure and as a naif caught up in Italy's Byzantine justice system." Drug dealer Rudy Guede is already serving a 16-year sentence over Miss Kercher's death, though it has not been decided whether Knox will be extradited from the US to Italy to serve her sentence. more
NUCLEAR ALERT : Sellafield Partially Closed As Radiation Levels Rise Above Normal Rate.......Sellafield Nuclear Site Partially Closed Due To 'Elevated Levels Of Radioactivity'
The Sellafield nuclear site will be operated at "reduced manning levels" today following "the detection of elevated levels of radioactivity", the company said. The site has been closed to all day workers in response to an operational condition.
The firm says the decision has been taken with the safety and security of the workforce as a priority. The site remains at normal status. Operator Sellafield Ltd said in a statement: "As a result of a conservative and prudent decision, the Sellafield site is operating normally but with reduced manning levels today.
"This follows the detection of elevated levels of radioactivity at one of the on-site radiation monitors at the north end of the site. "Essential workers only are being asked to report for work. "Levels of radioactivity detected are above naturally occurring radiation but well below that which would call for any actions to be taken by the workforce on or off the site. more

LATEST NEWS (JAMAICA) VYBZ KARTEL TRIAL: Policeman Quizzed On Unauthorised Use Of Phone Allegedly Containing Evidence
A policeman has denied protecting anyone as he faced questions from defense lawyers about the unauthorised use of a phone that contained evidence implicating entertainer Vybz Kartel in the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
During yesterday’s proceeding at the Home Circuit Court trial, Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, admitted that a cellular phone attributed to the entertainer was used to make several calls after it was handed over to him.
This morning, attorney for one of Kartel’s four co-accused, Pierre Rogers, continued his cross examination of the police witness about the unauthorised use of the phone on October 9, 2011.
He asked Linton if he recalled telling the court that the phone was left for unauthorised persons to use, then it would be worthless. The witness said he did not remember saying that. Rogers reminded the policeman that he had responded to the question. However, the witness said he did not remember that part exactly. more

ATLANTA SHUT DOWN, ROADS ARE CLOSED DUE TO ICE: Winter Storm Causes Massive Gridlock, Strands Commuters And Students In The South
ATLANTA (AP) — Students camped out with teachers in school gyms or on buses and commuters abandoned cars along the highway to seek shelter in churches, fire stations — even grocery stores — after a rare snowstorm left thousands of unaccustomed Southerners frozen in their tracks.
Tuesday's storm deposited mere inches of snow, barely enough to qualify as a storm up North. And yet it was more than enough to paralyze Deep South cities such as Atlanta and Birmingham, and strand thousands of workers who tried to rush home early only to never make it home at all.
Overnight, the South saw fatal crashes and hundreds of fender-benders. Jackknifed 18-wheelers littered Interstate 65 in central Alabama. Ice shut down bridges on Florida's panhandle and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, one of the world's longest spans, in Louisiana. Some commuters pleaded for help via cellphones while still holed up in their cars, while others trudged miles home, abandoning their vehicles outright.
Linda Moore spent 12 hours stuck in her car on Interstate 65 south of Birmingham before a firefighter used a ladder to help her cross the median wall and a shuttle bus took her to a hotel where about 20 other stranded motorists spent the night in a conference room. more
