JAMAICA FLOOD UPDATE: RUEL REID, Education minister says all school should reopen tomorrow

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite earlier reports by Dr Horace Chang that some schools should remain closed tomorrow, Minister of Education, Senator Ruel Reid has advised administrators and principals that where possible, schools should reopen for classes.Chang, who addressed journalists at a press briefing this afternoon, had said all schools in Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth have been ordered closed until further notice.

However, in a subsequent press release, Reid said all schools should reopen tomorrow. He emphasised however, that everyone should monitor the media for regular updates to determine if the weather conditions would allow safe commute to schools.
The minister said education officials will be guided by assessments of the conditions of schools not being used as shelters and the reports from the Met Service and Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
The weather forecast is for occasional outbreaks of moderate to heavy showers in sections of the island over the next two days.
