KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sixty per cent of the 4,248 respondents to the OBSERVER ONLINE poll: Should Usain Bolt be named national hero, said no.
With his unprecedented “three-peat” at the Olympic Games in Rio, Bolt cemented his place in history as the world's greatest sprinter.
As a result of his phenomenal achievement, there has been a suggestion that Bolt be bestowed the national hero status.
However, many are not in agreement calling this move ‘premature’. Others have stated that such an accolade should not be trifled with as it is “hallowed space”. Other suggestions were that the National Stadium be named in his honour or his image be placed on a currency denomination.
