KINGSTON, JAMAICA: Teacher killed by gunmen remembered as an outstanding educator

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Janice Atkinson Reid, the Dunrobin Primary School teacher who was gunned down by criminals at her home in Portmore, St Catherine was Wednesday night remembered as an outstanding educator.
Reid, affectionately called ‘Mrs AR’ was shot dead in January; the brutal act sparking outrage across the society.
"She was a person who would always strive for excellence," said Dunrobin Primary School principal Noel Watt.
He was among the hundreds of mourners who flooded the grounds of the Dunrobin Avenue school in St Andrew, to reflect on the life of the slain teacher.
Wednesday during the memorial emotions ran high as relatives, friends and close associates wept openly.
"She was a committed and devoted teacher who has left a tremendous impression on those who came to know her," said Nadesha Johnson vice principal of the neighbouring Dunrobin Preparatory School.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has condemned the attack against the teacher. ...
