ST THOMAS, Jamaica — The community of Top Hill and surrounding districts in St Thomas are still reeling from the shocking news that an eight-year-old child was brutally murdered and possibly raped Monday afternoon.
The police Tuesday confirmed that the little girl, Celeena Edmore, was hauled into bushes and her throat slashed.
A 19-year-old man was held shortly after the murder.
On Tuesday an angry mob burnt the house where the alleged child-killer lived. The mob then converged at the Seaforth Police Station demanding that the man be handed over to them so they could administer their own form of justice.
Trauma counsellors from the Ministry of Education and members of the Victim Support Unit were on hand at the child’s White Hall Primary School Tuesday to offer support to staff and students. The police say that a post mortem will be done to determine if the eight-year-old was also raped. more
