News: 20 years' imprisonment for $3,932 loot in Jamaica's second bank robbery Crimes that Rocked the Nation

TWO young men were sentenced to 20 years in prison for a $3,932 loot when they staged Jamaica's second bank robbery at the then Bank of London and Montreal (Jamaica) Ltd at 13 Constant Spring Road, Half-Way-Tree on March 2, 1971.

Cecil Gibson, 22, casual worker of 17 First Street, Kingston 12 and Glenford Blair, 20, casual worker of a Trench Town, Kingston, address, received the stiff sentences from Senior Puisne Judge Uriah Nathaniel Parnell, referred to as 'Judge Dread', in a retrial of the case in the No 1 Home Circuit Court in 1972.

The first trial had taken place before Justice Wilkie and a jury who imposed a similar sentence which was appealed by Gibson, represented in the Appeal Court by attorney Hugh Small (now QC).
