MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Members of the public in Manchester and surrounding areas got a close-up look of the parish's former first citizen, Cecil Charlton, at a public viewing of his body yesterday, on the eve of his burial today.

Under the supervision of the police, members of the public poured into the Cecil Charlton Park and the Cecil Charlton Hall to view the flambouyant Charlton, who in real life was a colourful and sometimes controversial politician. He died at the Hargreaves Memorial Hospital in the town on September 12, aged 88.
The former mayor will be accorded an official funeral service at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Gymnatorium. His body will be interred at the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Members of the public took turns in signing a guest book and tears flowed freely from some of his family members.
