Damascus, Syria (CNN) -- [Breaking news update at 6:25 a.m.]
(CNN) -- Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al Mekdad called the Sunday attack on a Syrian military research facility a "declaration of war" by Israel.
In an interview with CNN's Frederik Pleitgen in Damascus, al Mekdad said the attack represented an alliance between Islamic terrorists and Israel. He added that Syria would retaliate against Israel in its own time and way.
