What do you get when you file for bankruptcy ... in Dionne Warwick's case, you get a pass on more than $10 MILLION in debts.

The tax bills are as old as hills ... dating back as far as 1991.  Under the recommendation -- which is almost always rubber stamped by the judge -- Dionne will have a fresh start.

The trustee is even letting Dionne keep all her personal stuff, including:

-- 2 fur coats and 2 sets of diamond earrings, valued at $13K
-- Various gowns and everyday clothing -- $5K
-- Art work and paintings -- $5K
-- Living room furniture, dining set, bedroom sets, 2-year-old lap top -- $1,500
-- Cash in her pocket -- $1K

The judge should make his final decision soon, so say a little prayer for Dionne. more

KARTEL JUROR: LIVINGSTON Cain, 'Unnu mus' let them go'.....Court told Kartel juror promised to take care of colleagues if they acquit entertainer, co-accused ......alleged proposal to the foreman for a payment of $500,000 for a not-guilty verdict.

BY PAUL HENRY Co-ordinator -- Crime/Court Desk henryp@jamaicaobserver.com  Wednesday, March 19, 2014
LIVINGSTON Cain, the juror accused of attempting to bribe the foreman to return a not-guilty verdict in the Vybz Kartel trial, is said to have approached other jurors.
This was revealed in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court where Cain was yesterday offered $750,000 bail and told to return to court next week Friday.
Cain has been slapped with five counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and a count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
According to a statement from one of the jurors that was read in court, Cain had told him that he could take care of him if he returned a not-guilty verdict in the matter.
"I will take care of you as long as you seh weh me a say. These men are promising entertainers and unnu mus' let them go," Cain reportedly told his colleague juror.
As the allegations were being read out, Cain sat looking on attentively. Moments earlier, Valerie Neita-Robertson, who along with Dian Watson appear for Cain, told the court, "Our client denies the allegations".
Neita-Robertson had earlier asked Senior Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams to forego the reading of the allegation, saying that she wanted the matter to "settle down" and "avoid the media attack".
Cain was arrested last week Thursday following the guilty verdict of Vybz Kartel, Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell, Kahira Jones, Andre St John and the acquittal of Shane Williams in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.
Cain's arrest came after a report was made to Justice Lennox Campbell of his alleged proposal to the foreman for a payment of $500,000 for a not-guilty verdict.
Cain is said to be the only juror of the 11-member panel who voted not guilty.
In outlining the allegations in court yesterday, Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn said that most of the other jurors recounted having conversations with Cain, who told them to find the men not guilty.
According to the allegations, the foreman used her BlackBerry telephone to record the conversation with Cain, which took place at the Supreme Court library. She had been reportedly informed by other jurors prior to the conversation that Cain had approached them.
It is further reported that Cain told the foreman that he realised that she had some influence over the other jurors and wanted her to convince them to return a verdict of not guilty. more

World Bank approves US$42 million to help fight crime in JAMAICA....says more than 80,000 Jamaican citizens will benefit from improved services, basic infrastructure and targeted crime and violence interventions in 18 vulnerable inner-city communities

Wednesday, March 19, 2014
WASHINGTON, DC, USA (CMC) — The World Bank says more than 80,000 Jamaican citizens will benefit from improved services, basic infrastructure and targeted crime and violence interventions in 18 vulnerable inner-city communities as a result of a US$42-million project for integrated community development.
SIRTAINE… the project aims to foster
a more inclusive society in Jamaica
The Washington-based financial institution said the new project is a continuation of the partnership between the Jamaica Government and the World Bank on upgrading some of the country's most vulnerable and volatile communities.
It said the project builds on the success of the "Inner City Basic Services for the Poor Project" to address accelerating urban decay and declining citizen security.
"The project aims to foster a more inclusive society in Jamaica by improving the quality of life of marginalised city dwellers," said Sophie Sirtaine, World Bank country director for the Caribbean.
"It also aims to prevent crime and violence by engaging youth in public safety initiatives and providing them with job skills training," she added.
As a result of the funding, Sirtaine said more than 50,000 people will benefit from improved solid waste management services, street lighting, paved roads and drainage. She said residents in the 18 communities would "feel safer" and that 1,200 families will have their piped water connection repaired and 4,500 residents receiving educational and skills training.
"As we strive to advance the targets of the Vision 2030, where access to reliable services and adequate infrastructure is the norm, enhancing community safety and security is a priority," said Scarlette Gillings, managing director of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund. more

Warning: If you receive an email with the subject "Documents," and it directs you to a webpage that looks like a Google Drive sign-in page, do not enter your information.
It's likely a new phishing scam, in which a thief creates a fake portal that asks for people's private information and then steals it. (Netflix recently faced a similar issue.)
This one uses a fake Google Drive landing page to get your Gmail address and password, cyber security company Symantec's official blog reported last Thursday. You're meant to think that the documents you'll be viewing are on Google Docs and that you need to sign in to see them. Remember, though, it's all a scam.
"We've removed the fake pages and our abuse team is working to prevent this kind of spoofing from happening again," a representative from Google tells The Huffington Post. "If you think you may have accidentally given out your account information, please reset your password."
Think you're smart enough to tell the difference between a fake Google Drive sign-in page and the real one? OK, which one of these two photos is of the real one? more

Feds Bust Online Child Exploitation Network; 14 Men Arrested......BUSTED: Child Porn Ring Lured 250 Victims Around The World....Some Victims Under 3-Years-Old, most were boys between 13 and 15.

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Fourteen men were charged with operating an online child exploitation network that investigators said preyed upon hundreds of boys across the United States and overseas, authorities announced Tuesday.
Law enforcement officials said the arrests were part of a worrisome trend in which children are being enticed by adults to post sexually explicit images of themselves that are then shared online. In this case, authorities said, users of an underground network posed online as girls to coerce boys into sharing with them child pornography images.
Shadow Bedroom"These alleged perpetrators preyed upon the most innocent, most vulnerable members of our society with no regard to the immediate or lasting harm they caused to their victims and their families," Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said at a news conference.
The investigation, called "Operation Round Table," was led by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and federal authorities in Louisiana, where the alleged leader of the operation lives.
The roughly 250 victims were spread across 39 states and five other countries — Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada and New Zealand. Most were boys between 13 and 15. Two victims were 3 or younger, authorities said.
The pornographic images were shared on an underground website on the Tor network, an online anonymity network that masks the location of servers and conceals an Internet user's location. The subscription-based website operated from about June 2012 until June 2013, had more than 27,000 members and shared more than 2,000 webcam-captured videos, mostly of young boys, authorities said. Eleven of the 14 men, including the man authorities say was the administrator of the network, are being prosecuted in Louisiana. The other three are being charged in New York, Colorado and Wisconsin. more

PUTIN: CRIMEA IS OURS!....ANNEXED... Lashes Out At West... JOKESTER: Claims Russia Did Not Invade... Gets Standing Ovation... Says Russia Doesn't Want Any More Of Ukraine... Biden Lands In Poland... LATEST UPDATES...

MOSCOW (AP) — President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday fiercely defended Russia's move to annex Crimea, saying the rights of ethnic Russians have been abused by the new Ukrainian government.
In a televised address to the nation, he said Crimea's vote Sunday to join Russia was in line with international law, reflecting its right for self-determination.
To back the claim, he pointed to Kosovo's independence bid from Serbia — supported by the West and opposed by Russia — and said that Crimea's secession from Ukraine repeats Ukraine's own secession from the Soviet Union in 1991.
He denied Western accusations that Russia invaded Crimea prior to the referendum, saying Russian troops were sent there in line with a treaty with Ukraine that allows Russia to have up to 25,000 troops at its Black Sea Fleet base in Crimea.
Earlier, Putin approved a draft bill for the annexation of Crimea, a key move in a flurry of steps to formally take over the Black Sea peninsula. Russia's Constitutional Court and the Kremlin-controlled parliament are expected to quickly endorse the move. Some lawmakers said that Crimea could be made part of Russia by the end of the week. more

TOP SPRINTERS Zharnell Barnes of Kingston College (KC) and Calabar High's Michael O'Hara are expected to be key combatants as they and their teams vie for individual 100 and 200 metres awards, as well as the overall title, at next week's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls Athletics Championships.
O'HARA
Michael O'Hara
Both have been running well all season and their form suggest they could run close to the records established by Yohan Blake (10.21 for 100m) while running for St Jago High in 2007; and Usain Bolt (20.25 for 200m) while representing William Knibb in 2003.
In the lead-up to Champs, O'Hara is number one over 100m with a 10.29 clocking at Camperdown Classics, while Hughes did 10.36 at the Western Relays.
NOT ONLY STANDOUTS
However, they are not the only schoolboys with pedigree, as Bog Walk's Jevaughn Minzie logged 10.31 at the Douglas Forrest meet.
For the 200m, the competition gets sharper with the expected inclusion of Javon Francis, also of Calabar.
Hughes, of Anguilla, is number one this season, clocking 20.80 at a Development Meet at the National Stadium the week after the GibsonRelays. O'Hara follows with 21.29, when himself and Francis were joking around as they approached the finish at the Douglas Forrest meet. The latter timed 21.31. Minzie's best so far is 22.08. more

The Department of Health and Human Services' decision surprised marijuana advocates who have struggled for decades to secure federal approval for research into the drug's medical uses.
The proposal from the University of Arizona was long ago cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, but researchers had been unable to purchase marijuana from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The agency's Mississippi research farm is the only federally-sanctioned source of the drug.
In a letter last week, HHS cleared the purchase of medical marijuana by the studies' chief financial backer, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, which supports medical research and legalization of marijuana and other drugs.
"MAPS has been working for over 22 years to start marijuana drug development research, and this is the first time we've been granted permission to purchase marijuana from NIDA," the Boston-based group said in a statement. The federal government has never before approved medical research involving smoked or vaporized marijuana, according to MAPS. more

Educators Want Schools To Embrace More Christian Values.....calling for a revolution in the education sector, which would promote lessons in morals and sound Christian values to the top of the academic agenda.

A number of prominent educators are calling for a revolution in the education sector, which would promote lessons in morals and sound Christian values to the top of the academic agenda.

The educators believe that while Jamaica has been doing well in expanding the knowledge base of students, not enough attention is being paid to the spiritual side.
The chairman of the National Council on Education, Dr Simon Clarke, who has served the local and international education sectors in a number of capacities, traced the history of the nation's school system since the 1960s. He says there has been great effort to expand knowledge and improve skills, "but where I think some degree of slippage happened is in the area of personal and social development. These were left behind".
He cited the 2001 terrorist attack in the United States, noting that "the men who flew the plane into the towers were all well-educated, but something was lacking - that humane element … ".
Clarke believes schools should be deliberate in exposing students to the "whole persona".
"We're made up of different components - the physical, the mind, and the spiritual component. The spiritual is that which links the person to a wider source of knowledge. We're doing well with the physical, but it's that third dimension, the spiritual, that we need to focus on. I'm not saying that schools must indoctrinate or push any particular kind of denomination, but they must accommodate and make them (students) sensitive that life does not stop with what we can see."
