KINGSTON, Jamaica — Forty-two inmates today graduated from the High School Diploma Equivalency Programme (HSDE) that is offered through the Adult and Special Education Division of the HEART Trust/ NTA.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the disclosure on Twitter a short while ago.
He said a total of 134 inmates from the Tower Street, Fort Augusta and St Catherine correctional facilities have completed literacy training at the basic, intermediate and proficiency levels.
The HSDE is a literacy intervention, which provides a second chance and an alternative path to a general educational programme for adult learners aged 17 and above.
The programme is benchmarked against the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and comprises of 11 modules offered over three distinct levels — basic (grades one to six), intermediate (grades seven to nine) and proficiency (grades 10-11).
