CARELESS… shot and killed at his St Catherine home over the weekend |
Careless's wife, who was shot and injured during the attack, has been admitted to hospital. She condition was said to be stable yesterday.
Nothing was taken from the couple by the gunmen who apparently trailed them as they drove home about 10:50.
The Spanish Town police, which responded to the shooting, said the 41-year-old motor vehicle examiner and his wife were both taken to hospital where he died while being treated.
The father of three was employed to the Island Traffic Authority and was assigned to the Morant Bay Depot in St Thomas.
Vando Palmer, the director of communications in the Ministry of Transport and Mining, said: “A cloud of gloom hanged over the office” when the news of Careless's death was broken to staff yesterday.
“The staff was in shock and activities were halted for a while,” said Palmer. He said staff from the Human Resource Unit of the ministry were dispatched to the St Thomas Examination Depot to support staff at that location. Palmer said Minister of Transport Lester Mike Henry, who is on official business overseas, has condemned the killing. more
