KINGSTON, JAMAICA: Police seize 10 firearms since Friday

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Commissioner of Police George Quallo has lauded the coordinated effort of police officers across the island after the seizure of ten firearms and several rounds of ammunition between Friday and yesterday.
In the first incident on Friday, about 2:30 am, the Falmouth police in Trelawny carried out a search of a premises and a Millennium G2 Taurus 9mm pistol, a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol and nine 9mm rounds were seized. No one was arrested in connection with that seizure.
Hours later, about 8:00 am, residents summoned the police to North Gully, Barnett Street in Montego Bay, St James, where an AK 47 assault rifle was found in debris during the cleaning of a drain. No one was arrested.
And about 11:00 am the Constant Spring police in St Andrew were on mobile patrol when the driver of a Toyota Camry motorcar was signalled to stop. He complied, the vehicle was searched and the weapon found. The man was taken into custody; however, his name is being withheld pending further investigation. more
