OSLO : Jamaica’s Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Novlene Williams-Mills were first and third in the 400 metres respectively... ‘MAC’ ON TOP

Jamaica’s Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Novlene Williams-Mills were first and third in the 400 metres respectively, while Elaine Thompson was once again upstaged by Dafne Schippers in the 200m at the Olso ExxonMobil Bislett Diamond League Games.
McPherson, running out of lane four, went past American Natasha Hastings coming into the straight and powered for a very good morale-boosting win in 51.04 seconds.
Hastings, who withdrew from the Racers Grand Prix at the last minute, finished second in 51.38 seconds ahead of Jamaica’s veteran Williams-Mills in third with 51.66 seconds.

McPherson, who will now turn her attention to Jamaica’s senior championship, said it was ideal preparation towards Jamaica’s trials. “I must admit I expected a bit faster time, but I executed well in last 100m,” said McPherson in flash quotes provided by meet organisers.
“It was a good race, the right preparation before our trials, so it will be about execution in Kingston,” she added.
McPherson now jumps into a clear second in the Diamond race with 19 points after the completion of three of the seven races. Shaunae Miller of The Bahamas leads with 20 points with American Hastings third with 14 points. Williams-Mills is fourth with seven points.
Meanwhile, Elaine Thompson and Simone Facey finished second and fourth in the women’s 200m in 22.64 and 22.88 seconds, respectively.
The flying Dutch woman Dafne Schippers won the race in a world-leading and meet record of 21.93 seconds (0.7 m/s) with Ivet Lalova-Collio third with 22.78 seconds.
Both Schippers and Thompson had hoped to achieve their season’s best, but it was Schippers who looked as though she wanted it more.
Schippers, drawn between the Jamaicans in lane four and six, blasted out of the blocks and quickly went by Thompson in lane six and came into the turn with a huge lead and powered her way home to a most impressive victory. more

Hundreds Allege Donald Trump Doesn't Pay His Bills....Trump involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits

Donald Trump casts himself as a protector of workers and jobs, but a USA TODAY NETWORK investigation found hundreds of people – carpenters, dishwashers, painters, even his own lawyers – who say he didn’t pay them for their work.

Athena ImageDuring the Atlantic City casino boom in the 1980s, Philadelphia cabinet-builder Edward Friel Jr. landed a $400,000 contract to build the bases for slot machines, registration desks, bars and other cabinets at Harrah's at Trump Plaza.

The family cabinetry business, founded in the 1940s by Edward’s father, finished its work in 1984 and submitted its final bill to the general contractor for the Trump Organization, the resort’s builder.

Edward’s son, Paul, who was the firm’s accountant, still remembers the amount of that bill more than 30 years later: $83,600. The reason: the money never came. “That began the demise of the Edward J. Friel Company… which has been around since my grandfather,” he said.
Donald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will "protect your job." But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades — and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them. more

ABSOLUTELY WICKED : "Slow Jam the News" with President Obama (Funny)

Obama Endorses Hillary Clinton “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” the president said in an endorsement video released

Thursday.  06/09/2016 01:53 pm ET

President Barack Obama has endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, signaling he will fight to ensure that she succeeds him in the White House. Obama made his endorsement via a video released Thursday: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) met with Obama at the White House earlier in the day, and said afterward during a press conference that he would work to ensure presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump does not make it to the White House. Sanders did not endorse Clinton or say that he would withdraw from the race.
Obama mentioned Sanders in his endorsement of Clinton, thanking the senator for “shining a spotlight on issues like economic inequality and the outsized influence of money in our politics, and bringing young people into the process.”
Obama emphasized that Clinton and Sanders have a shared vision of “the values that make America great.” “Those are the values that are going to be tested in this election,” he said.
Clinton thanked Obama for his endorsement in a tweet:

ALL WOMAN TICKET? Harry Reid Wants Elizabeth Warren To Be Vice President for Hillary.... He likes winning.

06/08/2016 03:32 pm ET
WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) believes Elizabeth Warren should be the running mate of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to four Senate sources familiar with Reid’s thinking.
Warren & Reid
Reid had initially been skeptical of the chatter around Warren, publicly warning that Democrats couldn’t afford to lose the seat the Massachusetts senator currently occupies. But The Boston Globe reported last week that he tasked attorney Marc Elias with studying how manageable the loss would be. Elias is, not coincidentally, the general counsel for Clinton’s campaign.
As Reid has examined the issue in recent weeks, he has grown confident the Democrats could hold onto Warren’s Senate seat and retake the upper chamber, according to sources. He also believes they could even put the House in play for Democrats, the sources said.
The case for Warren is straightforward: She’s an outspoken populist-progressive who could rally supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to Clinton’s cause. Her grassroots fundraising prowess is legendary and could offset whatever loss of campaign revenue came from financial industry leaders souring on Clinton. And Warren’s appeal goes far beyond the Sanders camp: A January 2015 focus groupof independents and Republicans found that she and her message resonate strongly with working and middle class voters of all stripes. Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) is among the lawmakers to have questioned whether the country would be ready to elect an all-woman ticket. Reporters asked Reid about Tester’s open question on Tuesday — and he said he thought the ticket would do just fine.
One source close to Reid said that “he’s been back and forth on this” and is still concerned about the slim risk it puts Warren’s seat in. “Lately, he’s been leaning toward and sending signals for HRC to make the ask,” the source added. more

PM Andrew Holness exploring increased bilateral co-operation with C’bean neighbours

BY BALFORD HENRY Senior staff reporter balfordh@jamaicaobserver.com  Thursday, June 09, 2016
PRIME Minister Andrew Holness says he expects a number of high-level visits to Jamaica and increased bilateral co-operation, emerging from discussions he started at the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) summit in Havana, Cuba, on the weekend.
Holness, in a statement to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, said that among the invitees were Cuban President Raul Castro, and Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley.
Andrew Holness
He said that he was pleased to have discussions with Castro on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues.
“I was pleased to extend an invitation to the (Cuban) president to pay an official visit to Jamaica at a time to be determined through diplomatic channels. President Castro graciously accepted,” he stated.8

“Prime Minister (Keith) Rowley has also agreed to pay an official visit to Jamaica in the near future, to continue discussions with me at the political level,” he added.
He said that, at the summit, he had reviewed Cuba-Jamaica relations at various levels, and pledged to identify ways to deepen the prospects for greater collaboration and exchanges in the areas of trade, tourism, climate change and disaster mitigation, culture and education, in the short term.
“I reiterated Jamaica’s unwavering commitment for an end to the economic embargo against Cuba, and to ensure that this call is maintained until it is lifted and Cuba can operate without the strictures of the unilateral action taken by the United States,” Holness stated.
He said that, among the possible areas of co-operation identified with Castro, was culture, through their creative industries, including a commitment to explore initiatives for the provision of increased language training on both sides.
He said that issues such as climate change and sea-level rise in the region, and potential consequences for human life and economic development were also discussed with Castro.
He said that, following the signing of a multi-destination tourism memorandum of understanding (MOU) by Jamaica’s Attorney General Marlene Malahoo Forte, and Cuba’s Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz on Saturday, the two countries committed to have their “respective competent ministries” define the appropriate mechanisms to implement the MOU in a manner that will bring tangible benefits to both. more

CRIME IN JAMAICA: Police statistics show dip in serious, violent incidents; but shootings up Montague praises police, citizens for dip in crime

Wednesday, June 08, 2016
01THERE has been a 10 per cent reduction in serious and violent crimes for the period January 1 to June 4 when compared to the same period last year, data from the Statistics and Information Management Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has shown.
The figures, released yesterday, show a marginal two per cent reduction in murders moving from 502 in 2015 to 492 in 2016. Meanwhile, there has been a 29 per cent reduction in rape cases, with the figure moving down from 289 in 2015 to 204 in 2016; and a 27 per cent reduction in aggravated assault, with the figures showing 74 fewer cases than than the 277 recorded in 2015.
However, the data also show a six per cent increase in shootings, moving up from 435 in 2015 to 461 in the current period.
According to the JCF, divisions in Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine accounted for the greatest reduction in murders, 19 per cent overall, with the exception of the St Andrew Central Division that recorded a four per cent increase in murders or one more than the same period last year. The St James Division, the parish that is arguably the centre of the country’s lottery scamming problem, continues to record a high rate of murder, with a total of 103 compared to 81 recorded for the same period last year, representing a 27 per cent increase. On the upside, all other categories of serious and violent crimes have seen a three per cent reduction in that parish.
Notably, robberies, break-ins and larceny all recorded significant double-digit reductions across all divisions when compared to the same period last year. Robberies are down by 30 per cent, break-ins have dipped by 38 per cent, and larceny down by 52 per cent, the police noted.
National Security Minister Robert Montague said the figures represent the “yeoman efforts” of the force in seeking to halt the surge in crime.
“I wish to offer the Administration’s full and heartiest congratulations to the commissioner of police, the high command, the officers, the rank and file of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the citizens, and civic organisations,” Montague told the Jamaica Observer.
“It is inescapable that the yeoman efforts of the force, with limited resources, has finally begun to bear fruits. All Jamaicans who invested in law and order, by giving up some civil liberties over the years, by co-operating and assisting the police are now [seeing] some returns,” he added. more

WARNING WATCH: Feds Release Sickening Video Of Cop Tasering Innocent Teen, Leaving Him Brain Damaged The former officer now faces four years in prison for violating the teen’s constitutional rights.

06/07/2016 08:48 pm ET

Police dashcam video unsealed Monday by a federal judge in Missouri shows a deeply disturbing encounter between a former Missouri cop who, during a routine traffic stop, tasered, dragged and callously dropped a teenage driver face first onto the pavement. The officer’s actions during the arrest caused the teen to suffer brain damage.
Former Officer Timothy Runnels was sentenced last week to four years in prison over the September 2014 incident. The video above shows Runnels approaching a pulled-over vehicle being driven by Bryce Masters, then 17, who was on his way toplay video games with a friend.
“I haven’t done anything, officer,” Masters says as Runnels attempts to forcibly remove the teen from his car. Masters is heard refusing multiple orders to exit his vehicle.
Runnels tells Masters he’s under arrest, but doesn’t explain why. Eventually, Runnels says, “F**k it,” and discharges his stun gun on Masters, striking the teen near his heart.
As Masters slowly slumps out of the driver’s seat, Runnels grabs the teen’s cellphone — which he was using to record the incident — and flings it away. The teen then lies facedown on the ground, where Runnels eventually places him in handcuffs. According to court records, Runnels had his Taser deployed for about 20 seconds during the incident — the equivalent of four discharges of the nonlethal weapon.
Runnels then drags Masters’ limp body to the side of the road, where he drops Masters face first onto the ground. With his hands cuffed behind his back and unable to break his fall, Masters lands on the pavement with a horrifying thud.
Police originally said that Runnels stopped the car because he believed the license plate was linked to an outstanding arrest warrant. Masters’ parents argued that neither their son, nor their car, which was properly registered to the parents, had any warrants connected to them. Later Runnels said that he also smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle as part of his justification for placing Masters under arrest. He did find a small amount of pot on Masters when he searched his pockets. more

POWERFUL MESSAGE: Mental Illness Is Not Just A ‘White Person’s Disease’..... Mental Illness in the Black Community Starts With Depression

 06/07/2016 08:45 am ET

Mental Illness in the Black Community

I was 23 before I started going to a counselor for my actions and symptoms that were very similar to symptoms of depression. I was depressed most days of the week which caused me not to eat. I lost weight and was awake for more than 12 hours of the day with 4-5 hours of sleep thrown in here and there. My partner at the time also dealt with issues with mental health and rarely focused on me.
I spent a lot of my time trying to make sure he was doing okay, mentally and emotionally. When I wasn’t doing that I was studying. I was in the library for 7-10 hours at a time and even once I left the library I would go straight back to my dorm room to study until I had to go to class again or I would head straight to class to learn new information.
This was my life the last year and a half I was in college.
I was always alone. And even when I wasn’t alone — maybe hanging out with friends — I wasn’t mentally there. I always tried to find a way to be alone in my dorm room so that I spent more time studying as I could then have an excuse to tell my friends as to why I didn’t show up to have lunch or to hang out. I felt empty and numb most of the time wondering why I even woke up most mornings.
I didn’t tell anyone about these feelings — not my mom or my sister — and I felt like if I did they would ask me why I felt this way when my life was so good. When I had more opportunities than most young adults my age get, why would or how could I be depressed?
Mental health or mental illness is rarely discussed within the black community. In the black community, mental illness is thought of as a “white person’s disease.” It is nothing that affects black people. But mental illness is not dependent upon race or gender. Mental health is extremely important for any and everyone, race is not important as anyone may experience or deal with mental health issues. Without mental health, we can not be healthy. Everyone experiences emotional ups and downs, including black people. more

HISTORY IS MADE : Hillary Clinton Has The Delegates To Clinch Democratic Nomination....Bernie Got Burned

 06/06/2016 08:34 pm ET
Hillary Clinton has officially reached the number of delegates necessary to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, the Associated Press reported Monday evening.
Hillary Clinton
According to the Associated Press’ count of pledged delegates and its survey of unpledged delegates, also known as superdelegates, the former secretary of state has reached the 2,383-delegate threshold necessary to lock the nomination. CBS also announced the call. Upon being officially nominated at the Democratic National Convention in July, Clinton will be the first woman to be a major party’s presidential nominee.
The news comes on the eve of the final round of primary contests between Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), including primaries in California and New Jersey.
Sanders, meanwhile, insists the race isn’t over. Despite the apparent victory, Clinton’s campaign sought to downplay the news, likely to encourage California and New Jersey voters to still head to the polls on Tuesday. While her delegate lead appears secure, a loss to Sanders in either state would end her primary campaign on a low note and likely would fuel Sanders supporters’ desire for a contested convention.
“This is an important milestone, but there are six states that are voting Tuesday, with millions of people heading to the polls, and Hillary Clinton is working to earn every vote,” Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. “We look forward to Tuesday night, when Hillary Clinton will clinch not only a win in the popular vote, but also the majority of pledged delegates.”

VERY FUNNY ...Candid Camera Classic : Ali Meets the Kids

Muhammad Ali loved the kids.
In 1974, the heavyweight boxing champion made an appearance on Candid Camera, a popular prank TV show at the time that frequently included celebrity cameos.
In one particular episode, young boys at a grammar school in Greenwich Village, New York were asked to write about and share what they would do if they ever met Ali. Unbeknownst to them, the boxing champion was on site at their school and suddenly appeared to surprise them.
Needless to say, their reactions were priceless. They proved just how powerful a man like Ali meant to kids of all races who looked up to him.

"SHE IS A BABY!" : Man offers 12- year-old schoolgirl JA$1,000 for sex

Covering the courts with Tanesha Mundle  Sunday, June 05, 2016
A 21-year-old man who offered a 12-year-old schoolgirl money for sex was reprimanded by Parish Judge Maxine Ellis for assaulting the girl after she refused his sexual advances.
“She is 12, what kind of advances you making? She is a baby,” Judge Ellis said while scolding Oshane Williams, after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard on Friday that Williams squeezed the minor’s throat and slapped her on the neck after she spurned his advances.
The prosecutor told the court that Williams got physical after he told the minor: “I have a $1,000. follow me round deh suh,” and she refused to comply. According to the prosecutor, this incident was not the first time that Williams was making advances at the complainant, as she had reported him to her mother before. Williams, however, denied assaulting the minor as alleged by the police.
“A two finger me use and hit her on her mouth,” he said. But in addition to the assault claim, Williams is also accused of pulling a ratchet knife at the complainant and threatening “to run it through her”.
Williams, however, denied those allegations and pleaded not guilty to assault at common law.
The complainant’s mother, who was present in court with her daughter, told Ellis that Williams has been troubling the girl and she had to be taking the child to and from school because of her fear of Williams.
“Clearly you don’t get it,” Ellis then told Williams. “But me no deh home a day time,” he answered while noting that he was away at work.
But the mother told the court that Williams was unemployed and that her child had to pass his yard to get to school.
Ellis, however, insisted that he was employed and that the minor did not have to pass his home, as she lived on a separate lane from where he was living.
The judge, however, decided that she was going to revoke his bail until the police conduct further investigations into the matter. In the meantime, the judge requested a social enquiry report and scheduled a date for Williams’ sentencing.

REVOLUTION ON LIFE SUPPORT : Sanders Camp Split On Fighting Past California... Loyalists Insist On Contested Convention, Others Call For Party Unity... Sanders Goes After Clinton Foundation... Hillary Eyes Final Delegates... HUFFPOLLSTER: California Looks Close...

June 6, 2016
A split is emerging inside the Bernie Sanders campaign over whether the senator should stand down after Tuesday’s election contests and unite behind Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, or take the fight all the way to the July party convention and try to pry the nomination from her.
Bernie Sanders
One camp might be dubbed the Sandersistas, the loyalists who helped guide Mr. Sanders’s political ascent in Vermont and the U.S. Congress and are loath to give up a fight that has far surpassed expectations. Another has ties not only to Mr. Sanders but to the broader interests of a Democratic Party pining to beat back the challenge from Republican Donald Trump and make gains in congressional elections.
Mr. Sanders in recent weeks has made clear he aims to take his candidacy past the elections on Tuesday, when California, New Jersey and four other states vote. But the debate within the campaign indicates that Mr. Sanders’s next move isn’t settled.
For now, Democratic officials, fund-raisers and operatives are getting impatient, calling on Mr. Sanders to quit the race and begin the work of unifying the party for the showdown with the Republican presumptive nominee.
Orin Kramer, a New York hedge-fund manager who has raised campaign funds for both President Barack Obama and Mrs. Clinton, said with respect to Mr. Sanders’s future plans: “I would hope people would understand what a Trump presidency would mean and act accordingly—and ‘accordingly’ means quickly.” more

JAMAICA DEFENCE FORCE : JDF says increased military activity is regional exercise.... Military movements will be concentrated around JDF bases

BY BALFORD HENRY Senior staff reporter balfordh@jamaicaobserver.com  Monday, June 06, 2016
For the next three to four weeks Jamaicans will need to get used to the sight of soldiers from 19 countries travelling across the island as they engage in activities associated with ‘Exercise Tradewinds’ maritime and land operations.
01
JDF
Exercise Tradewinds is a United States Department of State regional security partnership supporting the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative or, to be more specific, an annual multinational maritime interdiction, ground security and interagency exercise facilitated and funded by the US. It will focus on countering transnational organised crime and will involve the training of troops from countries in the Caribbean and Central America, as well as the US, the United Kingdom, Canada, and France.
The activities in Jamaica will not start until June 20, but spokesman for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Major Basil Jarrett, says that, as of today, the public may start seeing the movement of foreign military personnel, vehicles and equipment, as preparations are made for the local leg of the three-phase exercise.
Phases one and two will involve maritime and land operations and will be held in Grenada from June 5-14, and then in Jamaica from June 20-28. The final phase will be a key leadership seminar scheduled for July 20-22 in Miami, Florida.
Major Jarrett says it is important that the public be made aware of the exercise prior to June 20 to avoid rumours and speculation, as it is the first time it is being held in Jamaica.
Front cover of today's paper“Somebody has already asked me if the troops are coming to assist in the search for ‘Duppy Flim’ (Jamaica’s most wanted criminal),” humoured Major Jarrett, who is in charge of civil/military cooperation and media affairs at Up Park Camp.
He said that the activities will be concentrated in the areas where JDF camps are situated, including Port Royal, Moneague, Twickenham Park, and Up Park Camp. However, he said troops will be transported by helicopters and motor vehicles to and from these areas.
“There is also going to be a ship in Montego Bay as part of the exercise, and the public will be invited to tour the vessel while it is here,” Major Jarrett stated.
“There will be no live firing at outside bases such as Twickenham Park, Green Bay and Up Park Camp and explosives will be confined to these camps,” he added. more
