A district constable was battling for his life last night after he was attacked and shot multiple times while driving on Maxfield Avenue in St Andrew yesterday morning.
Head of the St Andrew South Police Division, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Arthur Brown, told the Jamaica Observer that the cop — whose identity was not released, — was driving in a blue Honda Accord motor car about 9:00 am when a gold-coloured Toyota Corolla blocked his path and the occupants opened fire at him.
The cop reportedly exited his vehicle and returned the fire and whilst engaged in the shoot-out; however, the occupants of another vehicle that was travelling with the Toyota Corolla began firing at him, SSP Brown said.
Yesterday’s attack happened less than a month after Corporal Judith Williams was fatally shot at a bus stop in her Franklyn Town, East Kingston, community while on her way to work.
