Get the Guns Campaign in JAMAICA: Four guns, ammo seized in 24 hours

The police information arm announced yesterday that it continues to reap success through its ‘Get the Guns Campaign’, having seized four firearms and 51 rounds of ammunition in four separate incidents in the 24 hours to midday yesterday.

According to the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), cops assigned to the Hunts Bay station were on patrol in the Majesty Gardens area about 8:00 am on Saturday, March 12, when a man reportedly engaged them. He was shot and injured and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing three rounds reportedly seized.
The man was taken to hospital where he was admitted, the police said.
CCN said the matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). The second incident occurred in Spanish Town close to 1:00 pm on Saturday. According to police, a team searched a premises and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with one round of ammunition were reportedly seized. The occupants, a male and a female, were taken into custody.
Also on Saturday, cops seized a Glock pistol and two magazines containing thirty-eight 9mm rounds at the scene of a robbery which occurred about 11:30 pm in Anchovy, St James. Six individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident and four motor vehicles seized.
In the most recent incident, close to 5:30 am yesterday, policemen from the Barnett Street station who were on patrol in the Barracks Road area searched a man and reportedly found a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 10 rounds. He, too, was also taken into custody.
The police have not released the names of any of the suspects involved, pending further investigations.
