The EU said it has chosen to participate in the prestigious event to help commemorate the 40th anniversary of the EU/Jamaica partnership which is being celebrated throughout this year. Over the four decades, the partnership has seen more than 1 billion (euro$129 billion) invested in supporting several projects across Jamaica.
"I will be delighted to participate with friends, colleagues, and partners in the FFP 5K race. This is an excellent way in which we can commemorate with our 400-strong team the deep relationship we have shared with Jamaica over the past 40 years. Ours is not merely just an economic and political relationship, but it has been a walk together based on shared values and goals in achieving development in all spheres," said Ambassador Paola Amadei, head of the EU Delegation in Jamaica.
Ambassador Amadei, in congratulating FFP for its role in nation-building, said: "With over 38,000 homes built across the island, FFPJ is not only providing shelter for those in need, but through 32 years of humanitarian aid, continues to transform lives and give hope. We will be honoured to run under the banner 'Changing Lives and Restoring Families' on May 9 as this can very well be the slogan of EU development cooperation in this country. One of the strengths of Jamaica is indeed the social work supported by corporate private businesses."
Proceeds from the race will assist FFP in reaching its target of building 300 houses for Jamaicans living at or below the poverty line. The EU, meanwhile, said its contribution to the event is directly in line with their efforts to help Jamaicans prosper and enjoy a better quality of life. more
