Four women are now hospitalised in serious condition while one lay dead following an attack on a shop in Negril, Westmoreland last night.
The police say 18-year-old Ombretta Jackson of Lime Tree lane, West End address was pronounced dead at hospital. It is reported that about 8:45 p.m., Jackson was among a group of persons at a shop in Lime Tree Lane, when they were approached by two armed men who opened gunfire hitting her and the four other women.
The gunmen then escaped on a motorcycle. Police Commissioner Dr. Carl Williams has strongly condemned the shooting of five women.
"No effort will be spared to track, find and bring to justice the cowardly gunmen who seem bent on turning their weapons on the most vulnerable in our society, our women and children," said Williams. He is also appealing to the public to support the police in their efforts to bring to justice these heartless criminals.
