The NCB Group chairman Michael Lee-Chin oversaw the handing over of a $30-million cheque at the club's University of Technology base in St Andrew yesterday as part of a project to give student athletes nutritional and medical support.
"NCB have said to us that they believe we will continue to develop the best athletes in the world right here in Jamaica. It's rewarding to know that your efforts are respected and appreciated," James told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
"They (NCB Foundation) want to make sure that the nutritional and health needs of our student athletes and developmental athletes are met and that's specifically what the funds are for. These athletes, in a lot of cases, are not in a financial position to meet those needs themselves.
"The nature of track and field is that they are pushing their bodies to the maximum and injuries are part of the sport, so without the funding athletes can't survive." more
