AT least nine people were left homeless yesterday when fire destroyed five board houses and a shop in a section of Arnett Gardens known as Hopeful Village.
A mother of three, who gave her name only as Camille, told the Jamaica Observer that she lost everything in the fire.
"Everything bun up. Di bag dem bun up, di book dem bun up, di shoes dem bun up. Everything bun up. Nothing, mi nuh save no clothes," she cried.
No one was injured in the blaze, as most of the victims were attending a funeral when it started just after 3:00 pm.
An irate resident blamed one of the victims for the fire. According to him, the person who is responsible lit a piece of sponge and left it unattended.
"Mi tell him seh fi out di fire, out di fire, out di fire," the resident shouted.
Two units from the York Town Fire Station and one from the Trench Town put out the blaze.
