The mayor, Dawn Zimmer, hasn’t approved the project, but she did request $127 million in hurricane relief for her city of Hoboken – 80% of which was underwater after Sandy hit in October 2012. What she got was $142,000 to defray the cost of a single back-up generator plus an additional $200,000 in recovery grants.
In an exclusive interview, Zimmer broke her silence and named Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Richard Constable, Christie’s community affairs commissioner, as the two officials who delivered messages on behalf of a governor she had long supported.

News : Defence lawyers grill cop in Vybz Kartel trial Witness tells lawyer question inappropriate.
DEFENCE attorneys yesterday took further pot shots at the credibility of prosecution witness Corporal Sean Brown during the murder trial of Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused in the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston.
Defence attorney Pierre Rodgers accused Brown, who is assigned to the Crime Forensic Unit of the Organised Crime Investigation Division, of being unfair and unjust.

Rodgers charged that Brown's incomplete perusal of the phone data obtained from telecommunications company Digicel was unprofessional.
"Wouldn't justice and fairness dictate that you go through all the data?" Rodgers asked.
Brown admitted that he had used key words such as 'murder', 'killing', 'Kartel' and 'Lizard', to narrow down the pool of text messages and call records he provided to the court as evidence. more

31 y-o Nun Gives Birth To 9 pounds Baby Boy In Italy
A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week after she felt stomach cramps in her convent and was rushed to hospital, Italian media reported on Friday.
The 31-year-old mother and her baby boy, who weighs 3.5 kilograms (9 pounds), are doing well and other new mothers in Rieti hospital have begun collecting clothes and donations for her, the reports said.
"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun was quoted as saying at the hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. La Repubblica said she gave birth on Wednesday. ANSA said the nun had named her baby Francesco (Francis) -- also the pope's chosen title and one of the most popular names in Italy, where St Francis of Assisi is the much-loved national patron saint. The hospital could not be reached for comment.
The nun belongs to the "Little Disciples of Jesus" convent in Campomoro near Rieti, which manages an old people's home and reports said she would keep the baby. Her fellow nuns were quoted saying they were "very surprised". Copyright (2014) AFP. All rights reserved. more
LZ: America afraid of '12 Years a Slave'?.....'Hustle,' '12 Years' are among top Oscar nominees
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
- LZ Granderson: "12 Years a Slave" deserves praises for its unflinching portrayal
- Granderson: Even though it's a contender for Oscars, it hasn't attracted many viewers
- He says many people may not be ready to see a movie about our ugly past
- Granderson: "12 Years" deserves best picture for sure, but who will see it?

(CNN) -- The image of Solomon Northup's body hanging from a tree -- noose around his neck, hands tied behind his back, feet barely touching the ground -- is uncomfortable to look at.
And Steve McQueen, director of "12 Years a Slave," does not spare the audience with an expedient exit.
There is no overbearing soundtrack to drown out the sound of him gasping for air. For what feels like an eternity, McQueen makes us watch. He makes us listen. He makes us know the truth about slavery in a way no Hollywood film in recent memory has. The beatings are not brief. Christianity is not spared. There are no scenes of white heroes racing against time to save him or undo the injustice that is being done.
As he hangs there, we hear the birds singing. We see the sun fading. more

The musical is based on Marley's children's book, Three Little Birds which she says was inspired by her three sons..
"That was the song that could put them to bed at night and wake them up in the mornings," she said. "My middle son was getting bullied at school. He would come home crazy sad and I would hum the song to him."
The Three Little Birds musical originated in Washington, DC, last year, and Marley remembers bringing her children to opening night.

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Defence in the Vybz Kartel murder trial have accused Crown witness Corporal Shawn Brown of deliberately attempting to mislead the court by presenting selected cell phone texts by a co-accused.
Defence attorney Tom Tavares-Finson suggested Thursday that the witness abstracted texts from a series sent by co-accused Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell which gave the impression that Campbell was referring to victim Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
One of Shawn Storm’s text presented as evidence to the court read: “How much for the thing to deal with Lizzy.”
The texts were sent to an unknown number, the court was told.
However upon request by the defence that information from the unedited disc be presented, it was revealed that the unknown number was that of Campbell’s girlfriend and the texts were regarding their daughter Lizzy’s school supplies. more

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A condemned Ohio inmate appeared to gasp several times and took more than 15 minutes to die Thursday as he was executed with a combination of drugs never before tried in the U.S.
Death row inmate Dennis McGuire made several loud snorting or snoring sounds during one of the longest executions since Ohio resumed capital punishment in 1999. In attempting to halt his execution with the new method, McGuire's attorneys had argued last week he was at substantial risk of "agony and terror" while straining to catch his breath as he experienced a medical phenomenon known as air hunger. more

IN JAMAICA: Rastafarian Voice In Parliament
THE EDITOR, Sir:
If Jamaica is a democracy, where is the Rastafarian voice in Parliament? The Rastafarian movement is older than the two political parties in Jamaica. In other Third and Fourth World countries, movements like the Rastafarian movement is involved in armed struggle for a voice in parliament. Jamaica as a parliamentary democracy should appreciate that the Rasta movement - although a lot of atrocities have been meted to them - still believe that an independent senator should be appointed by Government and Opposition from the Rastafarian community.
While I am writing this article, the world around us is changing. In 2014, a country like Jamaica must become realistic and give the 10 per cent of the population a voice in the parliament business. Jamaica's development cannot come about without Rastafarian's active participation. No civilised democracy or socialist state can deny 10 per cent of its population representation in the affairs of the country.
Give thanks.
