Police are now awaiting forensic evidence to confirm whether the body they retrieved from a shallow grave in Great Pond, Ocho Rios is that of 18-year-old Jessica McLarty of Buckfield in the parish.
McLarty was reported missing by her boyfriend on May 3, the Ocho Rios police have reported. “We launched a missing person investigation which continued up to October 2,” head of the Ocho Rios police Assistant Superintendent Throyville Haughton revealed.
A suspect was taken in for questioning. Haughton said the man was extensively interviewed. The police were led to a farm in the neighbouring Great Pond community where remains believed to be that of McLarty were found. The remains have since been taken to the morgue where a post mortem is expected to be done to determine the cause of death as well as to confirm that the body is of the woman.
“In short order we are expecting to lay charges on suspect,” Haughton said.
He added: “We are pleased that there is closure even though we regret the death and the hurt that will be caused to family and community members.”
While not confirming that the woman had an intimate relationship with the accused man, Haughton said “they had some relations”. more
