Jamaica's New minimum wage takes effect today 7:50 AM


KINGSTON, Jamaica -- The new National Minimum Wage of J$5,600 per 40-hour work-week, or $140 per hour, takes effect today Monday January 6, 2014. The new rate is 12 per cent over the previous minimum wage of $5,000 per week, or $125 per hour, and was announced in the House of Representatives by Minister of Labour and Social Security, Derrick Kellier, in December.
