FORMER Trinidadian sprinter and Olympic medallist Mr Ato Boldon is correct. There won’t be the usual “anticipation and hype” entering next week’s IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
A large part of the reason is the recent rash of adverse drug test results for leading athletes, including three Jamaican sprint stars, Mrs Veronica Campbell Brown, Miss Sherone Simpson and Mr Asafa Powell, as well as the leading American sprinter Mr Tyson Gay.
It doesn’t matter that in the case of the Jamaicans the banned substances apparently entered the body via supplements and that they themselves have denied “knowingly” doing anything wrong. Seemingly, it also doesn’t matter that some of these offences are likely to be deemed “minor” when final investigations are done. Read more:
