A male student of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus, who was stabbed and injured by an attacker on the university's campus Monday night was still in hospital in serious condition yesterday.
The student reportedly lost a lot of blood in the incident which occurred close to the Confucius Institute. The victim is a resident of AZ Preston Hall.
Yesterday, concerned students and friends rushed to give blood in his aid after an appeal was made for blood.
The police said were still investigating the incident, which was said to be a robbery attempt.
"I am extremely disappointed with the fact that this took place, and even worse, on campus," said President of the Guild of Students Davianne Tucker. "The Guild Council finds violence of any kind intolerable and will not simply allow it to fall through the cracks.
"In the short term, we will ensure that students across the campus are educated about their own safety because they also have a responsibility to secure themselves," Tucker said in a statement. "We will also be engaging the administration to find more effective ways of protecting our students through the posting of solid, actionable ideas for persons entering the campus, especially at night," he added.
