FALMOUTH, Trelawny - The Trelawny Police have taken two men into  custody in connection with the recovery of 10 illegal firearms, and a grenade launcher and over 300 rounds of assorted ammunition which were hidden in a barrel which was found inside a motor vehicle.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Odean Dennis, crime officer for the Trelawny Police Division, yesterday at approximately about 10: 00 am, members of the Trelawny Highway Patrol were on a stop and search operation along the Scarlett Hall main road in the parish, when the driver of a motor vehicle was ordered to stop.

During a search of the vehicle, a total of 11 firearms and 330 rounds of assorted ammunition were found hidden inside a barrel.

The firearms include:

one 40 mm Grenade racket launcher;

three rifles, including a M-16, AK-47 and a sniper rifle;

three handguns, including two 9mm and a .45 pistol;

two sub machine guns, including a Uzi and an Intratech, and

two shotguns.

The names of the two persons taken into custody have been withheld, pending further investigation. Source, Jamaica Observer. more
