According to their report, the police went to 13 Lady Huggins Avenue and saw a woman and three men standing at the gate. They entered the premises and went to a house based on information they had gathered. But before they could apprehend Stephens, he allegedly pulled a gun and attempted to open fire. They, in turn, opened fire hitting Stephens.
The police said the gun seized was illegal. However, as sleuths assigned to the Independent Commission of Investigations processed the scene, some residents accused the police of lying.
"Him was in him house sleeping and dem go in there and kill him. Him was in him underpants," one resident said in a hushed tone. Blood stains were on the floor of the two-room dwelling where the shooting occurred and mattresses and furniture lay strewn about, an indication that the house had been ransacked by the police. more

ATLANTA SHUT DOWN, ROADS ARE CLOSED DUE TO ICE: Winter Storm Causes Massive Gridlock, Strands Commuters And Students In The South

ATLANTA (AP) — Students camped out with teachers in school gyms or on buses and commuters abandoned cars along the highway to seek shelter in churches, fire stations — even grocery stores — after a rare snowstorm left thousands of unaccustomed Southerners frozen in their tracks.
Winter StormTuesday's storm deposited mere inches of snow, barely enough to qualify as a storm up North. And yet it was more than enough to paralyze Deep South cities such as Atlanta and Birmingham, and strand thousands of workers who tried to rush home early only to never make it home at all.
Watch this videoOvernight, the South saw fatal crashes and hundreds of fender-benders. Jackknifed 18-wheelers littered Interstate 65 in central Alabama. Ice shut down bridges on Florida's panhandle and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, one of the world's longest spans, in Louisiana. Some commuters pleaded for help via cellphones while still holed up in their cars, while others trudged miles home, abandoning their vehicles outright.
Linda Moore spent 12 hours stuck in her car on Interstate 65 south of Birmingham before a firefighter used a ladder to help her cross the median wall and a shuttle bus took her to a hotel where about 20 other stranded motorists spent the night in a conference room. more

Cuba President Raul Castro, calls for regional integration free of the US

HAVANA (AP) -- Cuban President Raul Castro called on Latin American and Caribbean leaders Tuesday to work together on pressing regional problems at a gathering of all Western Hemisphere nations except the US and Canada.
In his keynote speech as host for the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, or CELAC for its initials in Spanish, Castro argued that the bloc should aspire to unity despite diversity, describing it as "the legitimate representative of the interests of Latin America and the Caribbean."

"We should establish a new regional and international cooperation paradigm," Castro said. "In the context of CELAC, we have the possibility to create a model of our own making, adapted to our realities, based on the principles of mutual benefit."
The summit's main theme is fighting poverty, inequality and hunger. According to the UN's Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, 28 per cent of the region's inhabitants live in poverty and 11 per cent in extreme poverty. Tuesday's session of heads of CELAC states began with one minute of silence to remember the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who succumbed to cancer last March.
Chavez, an outspoken US foe, was a driving force behind CELAC's creation in 2011. It was conceived as an alternative to the Washington-based Organisation of American States, which suspended Cuba's membership in 1962 shortly after Fidel Castro's revolution. more

DAMNING BlackBerry messages and video footage painted a trail of possible involvement in the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams by Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused in the riveting trial in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston yesterday.
People in the court had their mouths agape when a message sent from a cellular phone attributed to Vybz Kartel, on August 19, 2011 was displayed on a screen and read out by prosecution witness, Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton. When the message was first displayed only the words 'Tween me and u' were visible. However, after Linton adjusted the format the entire sentence appeared and Tavares-Finson objected furiously. This caused fireworks to fly between himself and Justice Lennox Campbell, who allowed the evidence. "With the greatest of respect, Your Lordship is ignoring me," Tavares-Finson said angrily.
"Mr Finson, you don't tell what to determine. I will determine that. You will get your chance during cross-examination," Justice Campbell said sternly.  more

Richard Sherman’s journey from Compton to Stanford University......Sherman pushed back on the media and the public’s view of him as a “thug,”....Sherman earned a 4.2 GPA at his high school in Compton.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman pushed back on the media and the public’s view of him as a “thug,” saying “stop trying to label people” and using his own background as a Stanford-educated black man from Compton to illustrate his point.
Richard Sherman
“I’ve kind of had to be a chameleon of sorts because you walk, I mean, you drive from Compton to Stanford and you’ve got to be able to flip the switch. The culture’s too different to treat them both the same and I think it’s not right to treat them both the same,” Sherman told msnbc’s Chris Hayes on Monday, describing his first encounter with Stanford as “culture shock.”
“Where I’m from, there isn’t a lot of culture, a lot of diversity,” Sherman said of Compton, a rough neighborhood in south Los Angeles. “I was kind of shocked [at Stanford]: shocked at the way they’re talking, the conversation, the dialogue.”  Sherman earned a 4.2 GPA at his high school in Compton.
“A kid from Compton who hadn’t seen too much outside the city, to tell you the truth, had to really adjust and really acclimate to that environment,” Sherman said. more

7 Skin Tricks That Will Cost You Nothing: 1) Drink water... lots and lots of water 2) Get at least seven hours of sleep each night 3) Reduce your sun exposure & more.......

waterIf, like us, you're broke after the holidays but looking for a good skin pick-me-up, fear not -- there's plenty you can do with absolutely zero cash. So stop dreaming of pricey products and save your money for more important things... like clothes.
1. Drink water... lots and lots of water. We've all heard the argument that skin is an organ made up of cells, which are composed of water. Therefore, the more water you drink, the better... right? Kind of.
The whole eight-glasses-a-day theory has been debunked, but studies have shown that drinking water improves circulation. While this doesn't necessarily guarantee wrinkle prevention, dermatologist Dr. Margaret E. Parsons told the New York Timesthat "if dehydrated, fine wrinkles certainly seem to show up a bit more." She added, "Staying appropriately hydrated is good for our general health, and if we are eating and drinking what we should, our bodies are healthier and therefore our skin as well."
2. Get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Yes, there really is something to the whole "beauty sleep" concept. According to the Mayo Clinic, adults need between seven and eight hours of sleep each night..... more

WINTER OLYMPICS: Sochi Mayor Says There Are No Gay People In His City

The mayor of Sochi is under the impression that there are no gay people in his city.
Anatoly Pakhomov spoke with the BBC ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics and discussed how gay people would be treated in the Russian region with the country's"homosexual propaganda" law in place. He's missed 17 straight votes since Jan. 9, and he's largely been a nonentity on the campaign trail.
