TOKYO, JAPAN: Portia boasts of 2011 election victory to Japanese lawmakers 'I whipped Andrew'

TOKYO, Japan — Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller yesterday told Japanese legislators that she gave Opposition Leader Andrew Holness a whipping in the national leadership debate in the run-up to the December 2011 general elections.
"The media gave the gentleman the edge, but the night of the debate I whipped him," Simpson Miller boasted, as she explained to the House of Councillors how she became Jamaica's first female prime minister, and that she was holding the office for the second time. "The demand for my presence in the 63 constituencies was very high," she continued, "and the fact that I represent the strongest constituency for the party, I was able to give of [myself] the other constituencies to ensure that we had a landslide victory. And we did."
Simpson Miller, who is on a three-day visit to this Asian country, told the members of the Upper House that since the election she has been having regular meetings with the electorate to ensure that she remains "close to the people", despite the many challenges facing the country, especially those relating to the economy and the recent financing agreement with the International Monetary Fund. She said that her closeness to the Jamaican people facilitated their asking questions, making suggestions, and speaking on the country's issues.

Yasser Arafat Poisoned? Swiss Scientists Say They Found Lethal Level Of Polonium In Palestinian Leader's Body

By Paul Taylor

Arafat File
PARIS, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was poisoned to death in 2004 with radioactive polonium, his widow Suha said on Wednesday after receiving the results of Swiss forensic tests on her husband's corpse.

"We are revealing a real crime, a political assassination," she told Reuters in Paris.

A team of experts, including from Lausanne University Hospital's Institute of Radiation Physics, opened Arafat's grave in the West Bank city of Ramallah last November, and took samples from his body to seek evidence of alleged poisoning.

"This has confirmed all our doubts," said Suha Arafat, who met members of the Swiss forensic team in Geneva on Tuesday. "It is scientifically proved that he didn't die a natural death and we have scientific proof that this man was killed." read more

Caribbean Drug Trafficking On The Rise

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Assault rifles at the ready, police in a speedboat scan the coastline as they slice through the slate-gray water, aware that the rocky shorelines and fishing villages that line parts of southern Jamaica are not always very sleepy these days.
caribbean drug traffickingSeizures of South American cocaine in Jamaica have doubled since last year, and that has prompted island authorities to step up their game, dispatching more patrols to locations that haven't seen such sustained law enforcement activity in years.
"All these areas are constantly monitored for illegal contraband. We keep our ears close to the ground," said Det. Cpl. Orville Welsh, the lead officer in the patrol boat, after his team searched a fisherman's canoe and a village of wooden shacks for drugs and guns.
It's not just Jamaica that's on alert. The central Caribbean as a whole seems to be coming back into favor with transnational drug cartels, with authorities reporting sharp increases in cocaine seizures and scrambling resources to contain the apparent surge. read more

Oils And Fats -Which One Should I Choose?

Is there a difference between all the fats and oils that are on the shelves in the supermarket? Yes, there is a difference. Some fats will be solid or semi-solid at room temperature or on the counter top, while others will remain or become liquid or melt if left at room temperature.
