BOSTON -- BOSTON (AP) — There hasn't been a party like this in New England for nearly a century.
Turmoil to triumph. Worst to first.
David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox, baseball's bearded wonders, capped their remarkable turnaround by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6 on Wednesday night to win their third World Series championship in 10 seasons. Shane Victorino, symbolic of these resilient Sox, returned from a stiff back and got Boston rolling with a three-run double off the Green Monster against rookie sensation Michael Wacha.
John Lackey became the first pitcher to start and win a Series clincher for two different teams, allowing one run over 6 2-3 innings 11 years after his Game 7 victory as an Angels rookie in 2002. read more

Canadians Seek Dick Cheney's Arrest For War Crimes During Upcoming Visit

An international volunteer organization urged Canadian authorities to arrest former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on war crimes charges when he visits the 2013 Toronto Global Forum later this week.
dick cheney canada arrestLawyers Against the War argued in a letter dated Sunday that Toronto Police Chief William Blair and Ontario Attorney General John Gerretsen have a duty to arrest Cheney "as a person suspected on reasonable grounds of authorizing, counseling, aiding, abetting and failing to prevent torture.”
“Once Richard (Dick) Cheney enters Canada … Canada must ensure that Dick Cheney is either investigated and prosecuted for the indictable offence of torture in Canada or extradited to another country willing and able to do so," Lawyers Against the War's Gail Davidson wrote.
The letter contended that Toronto police are legally obligated to arrest Cheney to prevent him from “escaping to the United States.” The organization argued that Canadian law would legally allow authorities to do so: read more

RUEL LOWE'S EDITORIAL : Is Jamaica running low on patriots?

Is Jamaica running low on patriots?
Oct 29, 2013

Patriotism is defined as:
Love of country; devotion to the welfare of one's compatriots; the virtues and actions of a patriot; the passion which inspires one to serve one's country.

I sometime wonder! Where have all the patriots gone? Abroad?
I would say many have migrated. I have seen many Jamaican professionals in the medical field who are living abroad, go to Jamaica every year, to provide free service to the poor in both rural and inner city ghetto areas. I have seen Jamaican abroad provide scholarships for secondary and tertiary level students - e.g. PALAS, who is doing yeoman service for those they left behind in their beloved home land.
When we look at Jamaica today, the patriots seem to be few and far between! Those in positions of leadership seem to be more interested in self than country, examples are politicians, heads of organization, and those in authority. read more

'We're Really Screwed Now': NSA's Best Friend Just Shivved The Spies.....FEINSTEIN Blasts NSA, Promises 'Total Review'... AP: U.S. 'Weighing' Ending Spying On Allied Heads Of State... Bombshell Torture Report Waits In Wings...

One of the National Security Agency's biggest defenders in Congress is suddenly at odds with the agency and calling for a top-to-bottom review of U.S. spy programs. And her long-time friends and allies are completely mystified by the switch.
"We're really screwed now," one NSA official told The Cable. "You know things are bad when the few friends you've got disappear without a trace in the dead of night and leave no forwarding address."
In a pointed statement issued today, Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Dianne Feinstein said she was "totally opposed" to gathering intelligence on foreign leaders and said it was "a big problem" if President Obama didn't know the NSA was monitoring the phone calls of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She said the United States should only be spying on foreign leaders with hostile countries, or in an emergency, and even then the president should personally approve the surveillance.
It was not clear what precipitated Feinstein's condemnation of the NSA. It marks a significant reversal for a lawmaker who not only defended agency surveillance programs -- but is about to introduce a bill expected to protect some of its most controversial activities. read more

The principal said that since he became aware of the video online he brought it to the attention of teachers who confirmed that it was done captured in 2011. Some of the students identified in the video were grade 11 students who graduated from the school that year, Bent said.
However, he said that he would be carrying out further investigations to find out if any of the students in the video are still at school, with the intention of expelling them. “If teachers can confirm it they are going to have to be dismissed as I can’t put up with that behaviour,” he said. Read more:

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Friday October 25, 2013 – The decision by Chief Justice Ian Chang to permit the marriage of a 15-year-old girl to the 38-year-old man accused of raping and getting her pregnant has outraged Guyanese rights groups and activists.

THE Marine Park Community in Portmore, St Catherine, was still shell-shocked yesterday, following Friday night's brutal murder of Special Constable Ariana Henry of the Harman Barracks.
Henry gunned down at her gate
Henry, 23, was shot at her gate in what her uncle, Victor Williams, described as a shoot-out with gunmen shortly after 8:00 Friday. She had been a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) for three years, he said. Williams, who was at home with Henry and her mother on Friday night, said the young cop met her death minutes after she went outside to speak with a visiting male colleague.
The colleague, Williams said, parked outside Henry's gate on Darien Drive, and as they stood talking, a dark-coloured Toyota Corolla motorcar drove up with her killers aboard. Williams said that one of the occupants immediately sprung from the car and started shooting. That's when Henry's colleague responded, firing back at their attacker, he explained. Read more:
