(CNN) -- A staff member was killed and two students were injured after a student opened fire at a Nevada middle school on Monday, police said.

The "student/suspect" in the case was also killed, Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras said.

Authorities said it was too soon to say whether the suspected shooter was killed by a self-inflicted wound or a law enforcement shot.

The motive in Monday's shooting was unclear.

"As you can imagine, the best description is chaos," said Tom Robinson, deputy chief of the Reno Police Department. "It's too early to say whether he was targeting specific people or just going on an indiscriminate shooting spree." read more

WASHINGTON--President Barack Obama is expected to acknowledge that widespread problems with his health care law's rollout are unacceptable, as the administration scrambles to fix the glitches.

Obama was scheduled to speak Monday from the Rose Garden, his first health care-focused event since the cascade of computer problems became apparent. The troublesome rollout of the health care exchanges has been a glaring embarrassment for Obama's signature legislative achievement.

White House officials say the president will discuss steps the administration is taking to address the glitches, including ramping up staffing at call centers where people can apply for insurance by phone. The Department of Health and Human Services says it is also bringing in technology experts from inside and outside of government to help diagnose the issues. read more

IN JAMAICA: Scores to get national awards today

SCORES of individuals are down to receive national honours and awards from Governor General Patrick Allen at the annual investiture ceremony at King's House.

Late folk music pioneer, researcher, performer and educator, Olive Wilhelmina Mahoney Lewin leads the recipients with a posthumous Order of Merit, the country's third highest honour , for service to the nation.

Additionally, six people are to be awarded the fourth highest honour, the Order of Jamaica (OJ). They are: Kenneth "Kenny" Benjamin, Rev Dr Garnet Brown, Easton Douglas, Oliver Jones, and Rev Ashley Smith. A seventh individual, Sameer Younis, was conferred with his award at an investiture ceremony last month for his contribution to the retail industry and community development.

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Police officers assigned to the Area 3 Division seized 631 pounds of compressed and uncompressed ganja in Bunting district, St Elizabeth on Saturday, October 19.

2-Year-Old Dead After Accidentally Shooting Herself With Handgun

A 2-year-old girl is dead after accidentally shooting herself with a handgun inside a North Carolina home, according to multiple reports.

Police said the girl, who was nicknamed "Coco," found a loaded handgun and that it discharged, local NBC affiliate WNCN-TV reported. She was at the home with her aunt and grandmother at the time.

When officers found the girl, whose name is not being released, she wasn't breathing. She was immediately brought to the Cape Fear Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, the local outlet reported.

"She would always come to to the fence line and play with my dog," neighbor Byron Brown told WRAL-TV. "To lose a 2-year-old baby who hasn't even lived yet...is horrific," he said.

Another neighbor, Felicia Brown, told WNCN-TV there have been "too many shootings" in the neighborhood recently and that she plans to move away. read more

Jamaican entertainer Andrew Davis, more popularly known as Flippa Mogla Busted! Int'l Drug-Trafficking Network Dismantled

UNITED STATES law-enforcement authorities have charged that Jamaican entertainer Andrew Davis, more popularly known as Flippa Mogla, was the leader of an international drug-trafficking and money-laundering network that operated between Kingston and the American states of New Jersey and California.

"Andrew Davis allegedly directed his organisation's drug operations from various locations in Jamaica, New Jersey, and California," the New Jersey attorney general's office alleged in a statement announcing that the network had been dismantled.

Flippa was arrested in Los Angeles, California, on September 16 and extradited last Tuesday to New Jersey, where he was charged for being the leader of a narcotics trafficking network, the distribution of cocaine, money laundering, and conspiracy.

His brother, 22-year-old Kemar Davis, who resides in California, was also arrested and charged, along with seven other alleged accomplices, in March this year, when the "takedown of the Davis Organisation began".

All nine accused have been offered bail. read more

Principal Raped Boy In Office While Parent Was Outside: Cops

A former middle school principal in North Carolina is accused of sexually assaulting a student while the boy's unsuspecting parent was outside the room.

David Ellis Edwards, 49, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree forcible sex offense, sexual acts with a student, taking indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature, WTVD reported.

Deputies say that between 2009 and 2011, Edwards molested at least three boys between the ages of 11 and 14. At least one of the incidents allegedly occurred in Edward's office while the victim's parent sat in a nearby waiting area.

Edwards resigned from his position at Douglas Byrd Middle School, where he had been principal since 2010, in August, WNCN reported. Before that, he was principal of Ramsey Street Alternative School. Officials believe that all of the sexual assaults took place on the campuses of these two schools. Authorities have also noted they "believe there were more than the three victims,"sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Tanna told the Fayetteville Observer. read more

PRIME Minister Portia Simpson Miller is to be inducted into the International Women's Forum (IWF) Hall of Fame. The induction will take place tonight at the IWF Leadership Conference in Vancouver, Canada.

The IWF, which was founded in the United States 30 years ago, said that the award is in recognition of the "incredible impact that women of courage, creativity and passion have made towards improving society, inspiring others and building better leadership in the world".

The police are reporting that they currently have three women in custody following a robbery attempt in the vicinity of the Nurses' Association of Jamaica (NAJ) head office, off Half-Way Tree Road in St Andrew.

Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, head of the St Andrew Central Police, said the women were arrested Wednesday afternoon after one of the females had lured a man to purchase patties for her along Half-Way Tree Road.

Bailey said another woman was introduced to the man as a cousin of the previous woman. However, when they were driving away from the patty shop, the second woman brandished a .45 pistol, placed it in the back of the man's neck, and told him to drive.

Bailey said when they attempted to rob the man, he held on to the woman and summoned the police. Another female involved in the incident was also arrested, along with a man. read more

Whitmore, whose mother peddles in May Pen daily to send her to school, said she was officially diagnosed with scoliosis about two years ago. This diagnosis came about three years after others around her started speculating that there was more behind the pain and fatigue she had been experiencing.

Jamaica Restores Name: Country No Longer Seen As A Pariah After Creditable Performance Under IMF Programme, Says Bullock

DIRECTOR GENERAL of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) Colin Bullock says the international markets are warming up to the country in light of its performance under the extended fund facility with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"The purse strings appear to be loosening and there appears to be increased confidence in Jamaica's capacity to manage a difficult programme," Bullock said.

The PIOJ boss, who was speaking during a meeting of Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, said Jamaica was no longer being seen as a pariah by the country's international development partners.

He said that prior to securing the deal with the IMF, the partners were unwilling to commit resources to the country, but that position has changed with the success of the programme so far. read more
