St Ann children go to bed and school without food....... Mother of nine desperately seeks to improve youngsters’ lives

SHYANN Brown looks forward to going to school, not because of the education it offers, but because it is the place that she sometimes gets her only meal for the day.
This two-room brick house,
board kitchen and small yard
is home to Imogene Lawrence
and her children.

'Some nights we don't get dinner, miss,' the soft-spoken child said. 'Lots of nights we go to our bed without dinner. But some nights my mother cook chicken back and dumpling, miss. I like it because it is what she has, miss.' Shyann is one of nine children for her mother, the youngest being six and the eldest, 23.
And with her eldest brother from the family home recently, the two-room brick house which the family occupies in Gibraltar, St Ann, is still cramped with three girls, five boys and their mother. All the boys sleep on a single bed in one of the rooms and the four females sleep on the double bed in the other. But even at 11, Shyann believes that her mother is trying her best under the circumstances. Read more:

Combating Cancer With An Everyday Pantry Item....Did you know…that baking soda has been shown to fight cancer, stave off colds and flu, and even treat radiation poisoning…all for just pennies a day? After 10 days of daily dosing with a special baking soda solution, Johnston went in for a second bone scan. After a few days of frantic waiting, the results finally arrived: “No convincing evidence of an osseous metastatic process.” In other words, the baking soda had stopped his cancer.

baking soda and cancerDid you know…that baking soda has been shown to fight cancer, stave off colds and flu, and even treat radiation poisoningall for just pennies a day?
Vernon Johnston has a very important question for you: “do you want to live?” That was the question he asked himself when he was diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer in 2008.
His answer was a resounding “yes!” Despite the fact that the doctor who diagnosed his cancer told him there were no treatment options, Johnston is still alive today, thanks to sodium bicarbonate, more commonly known as baking soda.

One Man’s “Dance with Cancer”

By the time Johnston’s cancer was diagnosed, it had already spread to his bones. When his doctor delivered the news, Johnston remembers thinking, Stage IVThere is no stage V. But his online research led him to a website promoting the Baking Soda And Cancer Cure.  This became the cornerstone of Johnston’s self-applied treatment program.
After 10 days of daily dosing with a special baking soda solution, Johnston went in for a second bone scan. After a few days of frantic waiting, the results finally arrived: “No convincing evidence of an osseous metastatic process.” In other words, the baking soda had stopped his cancer.

Stopping Fungus Might Stop Cancer

Two medical pioneers–Mark Sircus, Ac., OMD and Dr. Simonchini, an oncologist in Rome–have conducted compelling research on the potential of baking soda and cancer treatment.
Their groundbreaking work is based the hypothesis that fungal infections and cancer proliferation are connected, and that stopping the fungus can stop the cancer.
According to health writer Mike Adams of Natural News, “Dr. Simonchini “originally made the connection between fungal infections and cancer proliferation. He realized that when a tumor was flushed with baking soda (which is anti-fungal), it shrank and completely disappeared within days.”
Dr. Sircus expanded on this research further, exploring the effects of ingesting baking soda to halt cancer.

Baking Soda for Colds and Flu

Research has shown that baking soda can also be helpful in combating contagious illnesses like colds and flus. With cold weather arriving fast, many are seeking natural alternatives to harsh and ineffective antibiotics and vaccines.
For those who wish to use baking soda for that purpose, experts recommend the following dosage:
Day 1: Consume a total of 6 doses of half a teaspoon of baking soda in 1 cup of water. Take at 2-hour intervals.
Day 2: Continue the same protocol, but reduce to 4 doses.
Day 3: Consume only 2 doses, 1 in the morning and another at night.
Day 4: Continue on day 4 and thereafter with 1 dose in the morning until illness is cured.

john kerry syriaGENEVA — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reached agreement Saturday on a framework for Syria to destroy all of its chemical weapons, and said they would seek a U.N. The deal calls for international inspectors to be on the ground in Syria by November and to complete their initial work by the end of that that month. All of Syria's chemical weapons stocks, material and equipment would have to be destroyed or removed by mid-2014. read more....

23 Things Every Woman Should Stop Doing (VIDEO)

friendsIt is conventional wisdom that we’re our own worst enemies and despite the cliche, the idea rings true. We often drive ourselves insane striving for perfection in our experiences, relationships and selves, and honestly it just becomes exhausting. So here at HuffPost Women we’re issuing a challenge to ourselves -- and other women -- to stop doing these 23 things. (Of course it’s all easier said than done, but to employ another cliche, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.)
    1. Apologizing all the time. Research has shown that women actually do say “sorry” more often than men. We’re all for taking responsibility when you make a mistake -- but constantly apologizing for having your waiter split the check or asking a date to hang out on a different night or telling a friend about your problems, does more harm than good. There’s no need to qualify everything you do. Own your preferences and decisions. read more...

India Gang Rape Case: 4 Men Sentenced To Death

NEW DELHI -- An Indian court Friday sentenced to death four men for the December gang rape and murder of a young New Delhi woman, ordering them to the gallows for a brutal attack that riveted India, where it became a symbol of the rampant mistreatment of women and the government's inability to deal with crime.
india gang rape case death sentencesIssuing his decision, Judge Yogesh Khanna said the attack "shocked the collective conscience" of India. "In these times, when crime against women is on the rise, the courts cannot turn a blind eye toward such gruesome crimes."
After the death sentence, the wail of one of the four men, 20-year-old Vinay Sharma, filled the tiny courtroom. Sharma, an assistant at a gym, then broke down in sobs.
As Khanna walked from his bench, defense lawyer A.P. Singh, who has defended all four men at various times, began to shout at him: "This is not the victory of truth. But it is the defeat of justice." read more...

Today's Diet Tip: How Rachael Dropped 4 Dress Sizes...."I lost 27lbs in 4 weeks with No Special Diet, No Intense Exercise!"

(Everyday With Rachael) – The Garcinia Cambogia is the latest buzz in the “battle of the bulge”. With millions of people praising this so called “miracle pill” that you take as a supplement to lose weight, it has been getting a lot of attention since it was recently featured on The Dr. Oz Show. Surprisingly, many people who struggle daily with their weight have yet to hear about this powerful option. Those that have heard of the Garcinia Cambogia diet are confused about what it is, how to use it and how to avoid falling for ineffective formulas and downright scams.
According to Dr Chen (The guest host on the popular Dr Oz show) Garcinia Cambogia works in more than one way, “The first way is it goes in and causes the body to burn glucose, or sugar, and burn fat, mainly in the liver…The second way, the most important way, is it slows the release of sugar into the blood stream. So when you don’t have sugar building up in the blood stream, you don’t have fat building up because sugar turns to fat…When the two are combined together, you get this synergistic effect that basically burns and blocks and stops fat, but it also is natural and safe.” read more...

Performer Prince Jazzbo Dies in Jamaica at 62......Rap reggae performer Prince Jazzbo dies

Prince Jazzbo, a rap reggae performer and producer whose career spanned 40 years, has died in his native Jamaica. He was 62. Jazzbo died at his St. Catherine parish home after a fight with lung cancer, his daughter Princess Omega Carter said Thursday.
    Prince Jazzbo
He started his career in the early 1970s at Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One, the island's first black-owned music studio that launched the careers of many reggae legends, including Bob Marley. Born Linval Carter, Jazzbo was a relatively early performer of dancehall toasting, a vibrant form of rhythmic chanting over a sound system track that directly inspired hip-hop. His best known tunes included "Croaking Lizard," ''Penny Reel" and "Crab Walking."
In the 1970s, he had a spirited lyrical battle with fellow reggae rapper I-Roy. The two men feuded on several studio tracks, but were friends away from the microphone. Jazzbo's performing career largely faded after the 1970s. But he helped build a record label called Ujama and eventually ran it himself, going on to produce hundreds of tunes. Close friend Julie "Zimma" White said Jazzbo was a "very prideful man and a man of honor." He raised money for Christmas events for children in his community of Spanish Town, a crime-troubled city in southern Jamaica. "Jazzbo always said a good friend is better than pocket change and that is how he lived," White said. "Jazzbo will be missed by many. I know I will never forget him."
He was recording music at his home studio until the end, his daughter said. A digital track called "Tribulation Riddim," set to be released Saturday, was intended to help him raise money to pay for his medical care. Jazzbo is survived by three daughters, two sons, 10 grandchildren and his longtime companion, Natalie Wellington. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Holness: Gov't must pay attention to Chinese workers issue.

OPPOSITION Leader Andrew Holness says the Portia Simpson Miller-led Government is under an illusion as far as the issues concerning the employment of Chinese nationals on major investment projects in Jamaica are concerned.
"The Jamaicans are industrious people and I believe on projects being executed by the Chinese, there are Chinese labourers working, doing jobs that could very well be done by Jamaicans. That is an issue I am disappointed that you have brushed aside. It is an issue your Government needs to pay special attention to, you are under an illusion," Holness said Tuesday yesterday after he raised the issue with the prime minister in Parliament.

The Opposition leader prefaced his question off concerns, the most recent of which were raised by the Joint Industrial Council (JIC) of the building and construction industry. On Friday JIC blasted the Government for what it said were "egregious and misleading" statements in the media concerning the presence of Chinese workers on construction sites in the island. read more...

I was booed and almost quit, says Usain Bolt

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt has revealed that he came close to giving up sprinting in 2006 when he was booed by Jamaican fans for pulling out of a race injured.
The star, who was only 19 at the time, began his leg of a 4 x 400m race at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, but soon had to stop after pulling his hamstring.

As he limped off the track, some home fans decided to boo him. Some even shouted that he'd simply given up because he knew he wasn't going to win. In an exclusive extract from his new book, Faster than Lightning: My Autobiography, serialised in The Times, Bolt describes how the incident left him questioning his ability as a top-level sprinter and his desire to continue his promising career.
Bolt wrote: “Honestly, I had never imagined a time when a Jamaican crowd — my own people that had cheered me on so loudly when I'd won the World Junior Championships in 2002 — would boo me as I came off the Kingston track. read more...

IN JAMAICA: Hard Work Paid Off - Kimberly Burnett Achieves 10 Ones In CSEC Exams.

    Kimberly Burnett
    Kimberl Burnett
MEDICAL RESEARCH is her driving passion. In fact, 17-year-old Kimberly (Kim) Burnett is fiercely determined to make a significant contribution in the field of genetic and cancerresearch that will, hopefully, one day lead to the cure for the world's most deadly disease.
Kim's dream was inspired by the story of Henrietta Lacks, the African-American female who died of cancer in 1951 and her cells harvested and used in medical research. The cell line, called HeLa, became immensely valuable to research studies and led to major medical breakthroughs. Lacks' cells were, in fact, the first known human immortal cell line for medical research.
"My interest in medical research was really piqued by her story. And I realised that, more than anything, I wanted to dedicate my life to genetic and cancer research, and I know I will succeed in that field, because I am willing to put in the hard work," said the Immaculate Conception High School student. read more...
