37th TIME'S THE CHARM!: House Votes For Obamacare Repeal Again

The House of Representatives held another vote to repeal Obamacare Thursday afternoon.
The House voted to repeal Obamacare 229-195. However, the bill will have little hope of passing in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
The decision to hold a vote to repeal Obamacare -- which has already been done 37 times -- was made by Republican leaders looking to appease freshman GOP lawmakers.
“We’ve got 70 new members who have not had the opportunity to vote on the president’s health care law. Frankly, they’ve been asking for an opportunity to vote on it, and we’re going to give it to them,” House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters last week. READ More...

Leila Fowler Killing: 12-Year-Old Brother Of Victim Arrested, To Be Charged With Homicide

Leila Fowler Murder Suspect
VALLEY SPRINGS, Calif. -- A day before a 12-year-old boy was arrested for the stabbing death of his 8-year-old sister, his mother described him as "protective" of his younger sibling.
Leila Fowler's killing last month shook the quiet community of Valley Springs, southeast of Sacramento, and set off an intense manhunt. Her brother was in the home at the time and told police he saw a man run from the scene.
Days later, the boy appeared with his father and stepmother at a vigil for his sister. On Friday, as speculation in the community built that perhaps the boy was involved, his biological mother told Sacramento television station KOVR her son "could never hurt his sister." ...."I've never seen him be mean to her," said Priscilla Rodriquez. ASSOCIATED PRESS MESS.....AP Phone Records Seized By Justice Department As War On Leaks Continues.....

Attorney General, Eric Holder

NEW YORK –- The Associated Press revealed Monday that the Justice Department secretly obtained two months of reporter and editor phone records from the spring of 2012, the latest and most illustrative example of the Obama administration'sunprecedented war on leaks.
AP president and chief executive officer Gary Pruitt wrote in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday that "there can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters." Pruitt demanded the DOJ return the records and destroy any copies.
The AP reported that the DOJ obtained lists of "incoming and outgoing calls, and the duration of each call, for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and the main number for AP reporters in the House of Representatives press gallery." The Justice Department seized records for more than 20 telephone lines from April and May 2012. READ More....

John McCain Refuses To Back Impeaching Obama Over Benghazi (VIDEO)

Mccain Obama Benghazi
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) refused to sign on to calls to possibly impeach President Barack Obama over Benghazi.
WASHINGTON -- As Republicans are increasingly calling the Obama administration's response to the Benghazi attacks a cover-up worse than Watergate and even floating impeachment, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) urged a note of caution on Sunday, saying he wasn't yet willing to go that far.
"With all due respect, I think this is a serious issue," said McCain on ABC's "This Week." "I will even give the president the benefit of the doubt on some of these things. We need a select committee."

Cornel West: 'They say I'm un-American'....The American academic and firebrand campaigner talks about Britain's deep trouble, fighting white supremacy and where Obama is going wrong

Cornel West
Cornell West ... ‘I would rather have a white president eradicating
poverty than a black president tied to Wall Street and drones.'

Cornel West, the firebrand of American academia for almost 30 years, is causing his hosts some problems. They are on a schedule but such things barely move him, for as he saunters down the high street there are people to talk to, and no one can leave shortchanged. Everyone, "brother" or "sister", is indeed treated like a long lost family member. And then there is the hug; a bear-like pincer movement. There's no escape. It happens in New York, where the professor/philosopher usually holds court. And now it's the same in Cambridge.
The best students accord their visitors a healthy respect, but West's week laying bare the conflicts and fissures of race and culture and activism and literature in the US and Britain yielded more than that during his short residency at King's College. There are academics who draw a crowd, but the West phenomenon at King's had rock star quality: the buzz, the poster beaming his image from doors and noticeboards; the back story – Harvard, Princeton, Yale, his seminal work Race Matters, his falling-in and falling-out with Barack Obama. NEW ORLEANS — Gunmen opened fire on people marching in a neighborhood Mother's Day parade in New Orleans on Sunday, wounding at least 19.

At least three of the victims were seriously wounded. Of the rest, many were grazed and authorities said that overall most wounds were not life threatening. No deaths were reported. READ More...

TERRA INFIRMA: Majority Of Plants And One-Third Of Animals Could Lose Habitats To Climate Change

OSLO, May 12 (Reuters) - The habitats of many common plants and animals will shrink dramatically this century unless governments act quickly to cut rising greenhouse gas emissions, scientists said on Sunday after studying 50,000 species around the world.

The scientists from Britain, Australia and Colombia said plants, amphibians and reptiles were most vulnerable as global temperatures rise and rainfall patterns change.

About 57 percent of plants and 34 percent of animal species were likely to lose more than half the area with a climate suited to them by the 2080s if nothing was done to limit emissions from power plants, factories and vehicles, they wrote in the journal Nature Climate Change.

Hardest hit would be species in sub-Saharan Africa, Australia, the Amazon and Central America. READ More...
