BUJU BANTON is alive and okay Reggae star debunks rumours of his death

RUMOURS that reggae superstar Buju Banton was stabbed and killed in prison have proven untrue.

Since Friday, reports emerged on social media that Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, had been stabbed to death during a fight in the Pinellas County Jail in Tampa, Florida.Last week as well, rumours emerged that he had committed suicide in prison.

But in a message sent to his fans worldwide through Lorna Strachan, the mother of five of his children, Banton laid fears of his mortal demise to rest.

"I don't like rumours about me being killed or committing suicide. Tell them I like the rumours that I am free or out on bail," Strachan told the Jamaica Observer that Banton said.  READ More...

AMERICAN performers continue to dominate the Billboard Reggae Album Chart, according to the latest issue of the respected publication. Six of the top 10 albums are by Americans, including Reggae Worship: A Roots Revival by veteran band Christafari. The next two spots are also occupied by 'Yanks', namely Peace Of Mind by California band Rebelution and Spark Seeker by Jewish rapper Matisyahu.

The popular VP Records compilation Reggae Gold 2012, comes in at number four while Marley: The Original Soundtrack to the documentary directed by Kevin MacDonald of Scotland rounds out the top five. READ More....

Lauryn Hill Issued Eviction Lawsuit By New Jersey Landlord....Fails to pay her rent last month.

This week has been quite eventful for Lauryn Hill. In addition to making claims as to why she stopped paying taxes, the Grammy Award-winner is also reportedly being sued by her landlord for eviction.

According to TMZ, Hill’s South Orange, NJ landlord has filed an eviction lawsuit in response to the singer failing to pay rent last month. The documents revealed that Hill has been renting the mansion since 2009.

The report comes on the heels of the singer-actor’s forthcoming April 22 tax evasion sentencing, where she faces a maximum of one year in prison and $100,000 in fines for each count. READ More...

Within hours of the FBI naming two culprits in the Boston bombings while aggressively demanding that no attention be focused on any other potential suspects, police found themselves engaged in a deadly shootout with the two individuals, killing one while the other remains on the run.

“Two men identified by law enforcement sources as the Boston Marathon attack suspects — armed with explosives and guns — battled authorities in a Boston suburb early Friday morning, unleashing chaos until cops took one of the men into custody, and the other fled, the sources said. Officials later said the the suspect taken into custody died,” reports NBC News.

On Thursday evening, around 10:20 p.m., an MIT police officer was responding to a disturbance on campus when he was shot multiple times by two suspects, Middlesex Acting District Attorney Michael Pelgro, Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas and MIT Police Chief John DiFava announced.

The officer later died at Massachusetts General Hospital. His name has not yet been made public. Soon after the shooting at MIT, police received reports of an armed carjacking in Cambridge by two males. The victim was reportedly jumped by the suspects, and kept in the car for about 30 minutes. IN JAMAICA: Robbery Shocker - Cops Probe Cayman Link As Businessman, Political Activist Fingered In Multimillion-Dollar Jewellery Heist

Law-enforcement agents probing last week's heist of Rolex watches from Swiss Stores in downtown Kingston have now turned their eyes to the Cayman Islands, where a similar robbery took place and some of the expensive watches transported to Jamaica.

Police investigators believe that the perpetrators behind the theft of the watches in Jamaica are members of a highly organised group. At least 24 watches were reported stolen in Cayman, a number of which ended up in Jamaica, and the police here are working with their counterparts in Cayman to dismantle the group and end the transnational crime.

"Some of the Rolex watches that were stolen in the Cayman Islands recently are here. So we are now looking at previous jewellery-store robberies, especially those which occurred in the Montego Bay area," head of the Flying Squad Unit, Senior Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, disclosed yesterday. UPDATE: FBI briefing on Boston bombings postponed. The FBI said it “needs more time to prepare” before speaking to the media. Struggling to get their narrative straight in the aftermath of numerous men with backpacks being identified? Photos collated on the 4chan website show numerous images of suspicious individuals wearing large backpacks present at the scene of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Three of the men appear to be Arab or Middle Eastern in appearance, whereas another two of the individuals are white. The images show the men looking away from the marathon runners, talking on cellphones and running from the scene immediately after the blast.

Remains of one of the backpacks are also photographed yards from where one of the bombs exploded. The FBI states that at least one of the pressure cooker devices used in the bombing was housed in a backpack. READ More...

President Barack Obama's push on gun control suffered a major blow Wednesday when the senate defeated a gun-buyer background check bill put together by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.). The amendment failed 54 to 46, falling short of the 60-vote threshold needed to break a filibuster of the measure.

Obama spoke on the failed measure Wednesday evening in the White House rose garden. He took to the podium after Mark Barden, the father of a Newtown victim. "Our hearts are broken, our spirit is not," Barden said. Obama placed blame on the gun lobby during his remarks.

WEST, Texas — A massive explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco on Wednesday injured dozens of people and killed an unknown number of others, leaving the factory a smoldering ruin and leveling buildings for blocks in every direction.

The explosion at West Fertilizer in West, a community about 20 miles north of Waco, happened shortly before 8 p.m. and could be heard as far away as Waxahachie, 45 miles to the north. It sent flames shooting high into the night sky, and rained burning embers, shrapnel and debris down on shocked and frightened residents.

Although authorities said it will be some time before they know the full extent of the loss of life, Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman D.L. Wilson said just after midnight that an unknown number of people had died. READ More...

Authorities say the wife of a former judge has confessed to being involved in the shooting deaths of a North Texas district attorney, his wife and an assistant prosecutor. Kim Lene Williams was arrested early Wednesday. Kaufman County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Justin Lewis says Williams is being charged in all three deaths. Lewis says she is being held on $10 million bond. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Williams told investigators Tuesday that she was involved in the shootings of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife, Cynthia, and one of his prosecutors, Mark Hasse. A letter addressed to President Barack Obama tested positive for the poison ricin and was from the same sender who mailed a letter to a senator that also tested positive, officials told NBC News on Wednesday. The letter to Obama was intercepted at an off-site White House mail facility and was being tested further, a Secret Service official told NBC News. A federal law enforcement official said that the letter was “very similar” to one addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss.

The only two bombs at the Boston Marathon were those detonated at the finish line, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said Tuesday at a press conference.

Several bags and backpacks had been deemed suspicious in the initial hours after the attack, but no additional bombs were found, the governor said.

Special Agent Gene Marquez of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said that authorities are following a "variety of leads," though no suspects have been named. READ More...

The deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon Monday has left at least three people dead -- including an 8-year-old boy -- and more than 130 others wounded.

Two explosions rocked the Boston Marathon near the finish line, causing multiple casualties and sending the city into chaos. A group of gunmen staged a late-night raid on the Shell Company plant at Rockfort in East Kingston last Tuesday and made off with more than 133,000 litres of gasoline valued at just over $15 million.

Police are investigating an explosion that went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon shortly before 3:00 p.m., Monday.

The headquarters of the Boston Marathon is on lockdown following two explosions near the finish line, Reuters reports.

The blasts occurred just before 3:00 p.m., according to MyFoxBoston.

April 14 (Reuters) - A Texas man used a gun to commit suicide in the infield of a National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth late on Saturday, local authorities said.

Kirk Franklin, 42, of nearby Saginaw died after shooting himself at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday during the NRA 500 Sprint Cup race, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. READ More...
