Five Killed In West Kingston Shootings
Six persons were shot, five fatally, as a section of the volatile western Kingston community exploded once again early yesterday morning. Four men were reportedly killed during separate shoot-outs with police teams as they were accosted on their way from a dance in Craig Town in South St Andrew to Denham Town in western Kingston. Dennis Emmanuel Brown (February 1, 1957 -- July 1, 1999).
During his prolific career, which began in the late 1960s when he was aged eleven, he recorded more than 75 albums and was one of the major stars of lovers rock, a sub-genre of reggae.
Bob Marley cited Brown as his favourite singer,dubbing him "The Crown Prince of Reggae", and Brown would prove hugely influential on future generations of reggae singers.

Dennis Brown was a true innovator and entertainer.

BABY BORN WITH HIV 'FUNCTIONALLY CURED'
WASHINGTON -- A baby born with the virus that causes AIDS appears to have been cured, scientists announced Sunday, describing the case of a child from Mississippi who's now 2 1/2 and has been off medication for about a year with no signs of infection.
There's no guarantee the child will remain healthy, although sophisticated testing uncovered just traces of the virus' genetic material still lingering. If so, it would mark only the world's second reported cure. READ More....

LONDON -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized Sunday over an apparent stomach infection that has ailed her for days, a rare instance of ill health sidelining the long-reigning monarch. Bobby Rogers Dead: Founding Member Of Motown Group The Miracles Dies At 73
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Bobby Rogers, a founding member of Motown group The Miracles and a songwriting collaborator with Smokey Robinson, died Sunday at his suburban Detroit home. He was 73. Motown Museum board member Allen Rawls said Rogers died about 6 a.m. in Southfield. Rogers had been ill for several year.Rogers formed the group in 1956 with cousin Claudette Rogers, Pete Moore, Ronnie White and Robinson. Their hits included "Shop Around," `'You've Really Got a Hold on Me," `'The Tracks of My Tears," `'Going to a Go-Go," `'I Second That Emotion" and "The Tears of a Clown." READ More....

The month of February has flown by with the speed of lightning. The quick passing of February is due in part to it being the shortest month of the year. Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin is calling out Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts for making "deceptive" and "disturbing" remarks about voting rates among minorities in the Bay State.
Justices heard arguments Wednesday in a challenge to the part of the Voting Rights Act that forces places with a history of discrimination, like the Deep South, to get approval before changing the way elections are held. During the arguments, Robertsasked Solicitor General Donald Verrilli if he knew "which state has the worst ratio of white voter turnout to African-American voter turnout," claiming that state is Massachusetts. WASHINGTON — The most potent weapon in fighting discrimination at the ballot box comes before the Supreme Court in a case that weighs the nation's enormous progress in civil rights against the need to continue to protect minority voters.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Monday said looming automatic spending cuts are already affecting the economy, while a top administration official warned that the nation's borders would be less secure if billions of dollars are yanked from the budget Friday.
"The uncertainty is already having an effect," Obama said. "Companies are preparing layoff notices. Families are preparing to cut back on expenses. The longer these cuts are in place, the bigger the impact will become." READ More....
