Prince Henry of Wales (always known as Prince Harry) was yesterday made an Honorary Fellow of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, at the new Law Faculty. He was also presented with a specially inscribed silver medallion.
Vice-Chancellor of the UWI, Professor Nigel Harris, said both awards marked a new phase in the "happy relationship" which the UWI has shared with the royal family, since the institution's inception 62 years ago.
In accepting the honours, the prince said: "I'm so honoured that you have bestowed upon me an honorary fellowship and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. Thank you very much for your great kindness in welcoming me among you so warmly."
Following the conferment, the prince unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit to the faculty.
The prince completes his four-day visit to Jamaica tomorrow.

PRINCE Harry beats sprint king Usain Bolt in a 20m dash at the UWI Mona Bowl this morning.


There was a false start on the first try, and on the second run Bolt eased up and allowed Harry to finish first.

Prince Harry, who did a question and answer segment with Jamaican athletes, said he was very happy to be in Jamaica.

He promised to visit the Jamaica Village at the London 2012 Olympics once work permits.

Bolt said he was happy to meet the prince and said he managed to loosen up a bit because of Prince Harry’s good-natured personality.

Prince Harry arrived on the island yesterday for a four-day visit representing his grandmother, The Queen, as part of the international celebrations commemorating the 60th anniversary of her coronation.
